Stock rebuilt 312 with what looks like a Holley 4150 or 4160 carb. It has a large vacuum port on the passenger side rear that goes directly to the intake manifold (via hose), not a PCV valve.
Never liked the carb...changing it to a Edelbrock 1406 with electric choke.
Question? The large vacuum port going to the intake manifold from the Holley, what does that do? Do I need to hook that up to the front of the Edlbrock carb where you would normally hook up the PCV valve line?
I was told by Edelbrock (who admittantly ws not familiar with the Holley set up) that the line going to the intake may be what controls the vacuum secondaries on the Holley and that the front vacuum port on the Edelbrock can just be plugged if no PCV valve is used.
Thanks for the help with what may be a simple question.

I converted my '55 bird to '57 "B" intake & 4160 carb. I don't have an original carb, but I do have LIST 1850 (600cfm) and 1848-1 (465cfm) carbs, which come with stock linkage and thermal chokes, and no PVC fittings. The only vacuum port I find on the carb itself is for distributor advance, which I am not using because I'm running a mechanical-only unilite. Power brake vacuum and wiper vacuum come off a common fitting at the rear of the manifold, connecting to two separate hardlines routed along the driver side of the manifold and up to the front of the engine.

IMHO I havent seen the edelbrocks work too well on the Y's, I have went the other way with carb changes. Try the Summit Ford style, It was cheap and ran great at all rpm ranges.

Plug the front port if you don't have a PCV.
I have an Edelbrock on my 312 (in a 54) and it runs great. Have the same carb on a 302 and have the same situation (runs great). Plan to run one on my 64 Fairlane (302)
