The release valve on the hydraulic ram on my engine hoist has developed a "hair trigger" and is not comfortable (safe) to use. Before I start pulling the release valve apart does anyone have anyone experience with these and know what sort of repairs can be made? Thank you.

Sounds like it might be a worn needle valve. Most users are prone to over snugging these. I've always kept mine just finger tight. In any case you need to make a repair that you will feel safe with.

I pulled the release valve and this one has steel ball that seals the release valve, not a needle valve. I put some ARP lube on the threads and now it releases more predictably, although I haven't experimented with a Y block hanging from the end.
Thanks.

Good to hear it was an easy fix. Try it on something worthless like a SBC. That way if it drops it's no loss. Just stay clear of it.
