Does anyone have or know of any very early color pictures from factory or personal collections that show a '57 312 engine. I am trying to accurately restore a '57 with 312 and would like to verify with early pictures some details. Please let me know what you have via PM or email. Thanks, Randy

The problem with colours is that even in books the pictures are of restored cars so the colour is how the restorer interpreted it. Also 56 year old paint that has been subjected to under hood temperatures, oil, gasoline, anti-freeze etc. is no longer reliable nor are 56 year old original colour photos. Other than a colour spec for the paint perhaps there is someone you could consult who was at least 13 in 1957, isn't colour blind, has a photographic memory and is interested in old Fords. Maybe Chuck knows. Lol.

Hey, you talking to me? Now if I could just remember where I put those color charts. I actually had a 57 convertible in 1960 but couldn't begin to remember what color the engine was. Chuck Crying

You are correct, aging, interpretation and lack of attention to detail are the reasons that I am trying to finding very early or production line color pictures. I have found a few inconsistencies in some restorations that I want to clear up before completing my Phase 1 Supercharged Custom.

The original red was bright, and after a few heat cycles turned to a deep red. I believe duplicolor ford red is as close as you can come. Any pictures will suffer from color warmness from the film, variations in developing, and age on the engine when the photo was taken.
