I've know Dick for about 50 years, with his recent passing I got to thinking of my Y-Block roots, when everyone else was running tri five scrubs in the late 50s, early 60s, he was running a 56 Ford, then 57 and then the 58 and on up. I can still hear those pipes on the 58 down the back straightaway in Wisconsin Rapids, he won a lot with those early Fords. By 62 I had a 55 Vickey, sounded bad, but not as bad as his. RIP Richard. I was also a Trickle fan, He could drive a race car as well as anybody. I watched every race with him in it that I could. Always waited for the day when he had a ride as good as Earnhardt's. Would that have been a matchup or what? The world of NASCAR is less interesting today without Trickle, Earnhardt Sr., Wallace, Elliot, and Yarbough, ETC, ETC.

If you look up the term RACER in the dictionary, there should be a picture of Dick Trickle.I had the opportunity to race against him a few times years ago,and it was an honor to be passed by him.He was the best!!!!!!!

I've got a video we took around 1960, Dick is running his 56 then, Dave Marcis is also in it, fun watching these oldies, just wish they would have had sound. Gary

Well, you guys still have Matt Kenseth. He's pretty fair! Don't necessarily like his ride this year, but he can beat Kyle!

He always went by me so fast,I couldn't see if he was smoking or not. But,you're right,he likely was.

When Dick climbed out of his car, he'd walk over, take a Camel out of my pocket and immediately start checking the car over, as long as he furnished the Pabst, it was a fair trade, he got PBR for a sponsor but never Camel, the cig and a can of beer were his calling cards.

I didn't know about Trickle's affinity for Camel's , but come to think of it , it would have been neat to see him in the 23 Camel Ford instead of Jimmy Spencer . I only saw him once here in Ontario , Cayuga Speedway early 80's and he put on a real show of driving skill .

My brother and I used to throw a party after the miller 200 in Milwaukee, often Dick Trickle or Alan Kulwicki would show up. Those were fun times. Once we were all standing there, a station wagon came barreling down on us, the gal driving it got on the brakes and delivered Trickle rolling off the hood. Both of those guys had a rare talent of jumping in a strange car and having it up front by the end of the night. God speed
