To whom it may concern...

After tinkering, tuning, and taking a few runs around the parking lot, I finally took my rebuilt 292 (55 Club Sedan, original Fordomatic) out for a 20-25 mile hike on a four lane road - time to seat the rings!Tongue The Y block is alive and well - all kinds of looks, all kinds of cars being passed, my wife calling me on her cell phone in the chase vehicle warning me of a ticket... etc, etc, etc. Of course, I may have had need to be concerned about a ticket. The car is not registered and/or titled in our state (I moved it up from NC to WV) -- but it did have insurance coverage.

The motor has excellent oil pressure and plenty of torque - even at 70 mph, she had a whole lot more to go under the hood. For the grand finale, after I got off the 4 lane highway, I got my 3 kids in the back seat - 2 girls, 7 and 10, and my boy Ethan, age 4. They loved it - when we go to the garage, they all jumped out to talk to the folks that were there that wanted to see this resurrected Y. My little boy jumped out last and screamed out, "It's a Y block engine, and it's fast!"w00t

The girls were a little upset that I told them it was time for a bath, and time for homework - they wanted to stay with me in the garage for a little tunin' session. My wife just said - "Isn't it great to have your second wife back with us again..."Whistling She has decided to name the car -- Nellie. Where she gets that, I have no idea. Kudos goes out to her though, she video taped a lot of the scenario tonight - even while we were going down the road! How she handles a cell phone, the Aerostar, and that camera, I have no idea.

Needless to say, I am on cloud nine right now. Y blocking is great, and even better when the whole family is involved in this thing - I am sure not everyone is so blessed...

Next up -- to get that B intake and 4 barrel on that 292 C2AE, .060, G heads, Hi ratio rockers, mild cam Street Y!!!!

Daniel, its always great to hear of another Y back on the road. It always amazes me how with not a whole lot of extra work; different cam, little port and polish to the heads, and a good motor balance job, how quick they can be for the cubic inches that they are. And usually pretty good in the fuel usage department too. Hope you drive the wheels off of it.

Congratulations on your project and your family involvement.  I am sure that it means a lot to your kids to be involved.  Keep up the good work, both on the Y-block cars and your family.

Ok - hopefully the link worked. It goes along with the story I am going to tell you  (of today, January 21, 2008) But if no photo, no story. Let me see if this works...

Awesome! It worked.

The story is...

Here in West Virginia, it is pretty cold - yesterday we had a wind chill that put the temp at "0"! But, my kids love the Y block! We had to take in our Expedition to have it inspected, so we took along our Y block (which needs no state inspection, due to an Antique Vehicle license plate). My kids rode in the back - they love it. My boy says, "Rev it up, daddy" (He is soon to be 5 years old). My oldest daughter just had to ride in the front seat.

Best part of the story - on the way back I stop the car on a country road. We had been driving for a while, everything is nice and warm...I put my Club Sedan in park and say - "What do you think kids?" They all say, "Go for it!".

I check to make sure that no one is coming either way (this is an old country road, but it is paved). Let's see what she will do...my car is a 292, G heads, Hi-ratio rockers, good torque cam, but just a small 2 barrel carb and an original Fordomatic.

On radial tires and dry pavement - I put her in Lo and stomped the gas (with my foot OFF the brake), and she busts loose and the tire squeals for about 20-30 feet!

Of course the kids love it - the car has really got the torque!

Funny thing about that cold weather up there in West By God Virginia, it warm all over when with the family enjoying life.. Very glad to hear ya enjoying one of Ole Henry's better ideas.. Being that I'am a Monogahela river rat..(Elizabeth, PA), maybe soon to retire to your wonderful state..??

I know a little bit about PA - my wife grew up in southern Lancaster County (Quarryville) Pennsylvania. I lived there for the first seven years of my married life...had Amish neighbors for a while.
