The 56-57 doesn't mean I have 2 sets of gages .I never said in the post I did have 2 sets of gages. I was told these fit 56 or 57. I have no idea which they are for (and could care less). I thought my explanation was clear enough . But I guess not. But they are still for sale. you can put them in anything you want to put them in.
BTW it's where ARE not IS.
In case you don't understand why I said what I said it is because the topic is referring to gages and not one gage . Therefore are is plural . Hope this helps.

You didn't upset me . I was telling what I was told about them. Personally I don't know what they work on. I was a teacher in my previous life and I have a tendency to correct people when they speak English improperly. Hope I didn't offend you.
In either case they are for sale . I have no idea what they are worth so offers are accepted. If I don't get them sold soon they will be thrown out as I don't need them. Thought someone here could use them.
I will be in LA until the 10th of April If you want these let me know and when I get back I will contact you. If not then they are garbage.

If you don't get a response here, try putting them on one of the other internet car sites. I'm sure someone with a 1956 Ford could use them.. It pains me to see usuable vintage parts trashed...

I am back from LA finally. If no one offers to buy them by Friday then tell them bye. They will be trash. I will not give them to anyone so don't ask. They are for sale or they will be trashed.

So you'd rather throw them away than accept my offer + shipping? They would fit a priority shipping box.

That's sad. I offered to take them off his hands for the cost of shipping since he's just going to throw them away. I don't know what I would do with them but they'd be safe, for now. And I have a feeling your offer was better than mine.

I got offers to pay for shipping only from both of you. That's it no other offers were made. If there were others you need to resend them as I never got anything .

I may be wrong but I was raised when you have something for sale and nobody wants it you toss it as being not wanted. That's what I am getting here. Plus I don't understand why if no one wants these why would one be willing to pay for shipping ? That tells me you want them. If you want them then make an offer. If not then there is no way you will get them for shipping only.
You say in your reply you have no use for them yet you want them.
Ill trade them for a set of Finned TBird Valve Covers.

I don't really want it, but if it will save it from destruction, that is my offer. My offer stands. I hope this is just a bluff and you're not really one of those people who will throw something away just because you don't get money for it. Or at least you will hold onto it until you do. I consider myself a true car guy, and I would give something away before I would throw it away if I couldn't get compensation for it.

A set of finned aluminum TBird covers in trade would value your gauges at roughly around 300 bucks.

I offered more than just the cost of shipping. I offered an honest $25 for them but that's because I don't need them. I thought it was worthwhile as I would have to find a good place to store them. So figuring on storage costs these days that in itself could cost anyone more than $25 in storage costs per year. If you want $300 for them, then be up front about it. If you want to throw them out, be my guest. Try throwing $25 in the garbage and see how good that feels.

The people on this site are passionate collectors of all things Y-Block. We have cars for many different years and styles. It's rare that you find a 55/56 needing a complete instrument cluster but it could happen. That said to have any parts go to the crusher is something we try to avoid. I have several engine blocks and other parts that I hold on to simply in case someone needs them. That is why people offer to take the parts to hold but not to buy (or sell for that matter). Hope this makes sense. Chuck

This gage set is a part of all the stuff I got when my dad died. He had this TBird since new. I know he loved the car . He was on this website a lot. So when he died I got the bird and the parts . I have no interest in either . My first reaction was to toss it all . Then I thought that this site may have someone that would have a need . My interests lie in other things. That being said I will not give anything to anyone. You people say you don't need the parts but, you offer a pittance for the parts. That tells me you all know its worth and are trying to get something for nothing. If you don't have a need for it , then you don't need it . If no one needs it then its trash.
Tomorrow this stuff goes to the scrap yard:
Leaf Springs, gage set , 4 sets of wheel covers , convertible top frame , engine parts (intake carbs water pump? ), fender skirts , brake drums and other brake parts .
Throwing away $25.00 doesn't bother me.
|
By 56_Fairlane - 11 Years Ago
|
You'd rather give it away to a scrapper who will do exactly what you think we'd do with them. We have needs here but we won't pay something to someone who thinks their stuff is worth its weight in gold. You should have wrote what you were expecting to get rather than open yourself up to offers that you ultimately find insulting. You have no conscience if you'd rather help a scrapper than help out someone in a community you signed up to support. We have a passion about our hobby. You obviously don't. .

itsa292,
I get updates from Y block when new replies and post come in.
With this said;
Leaf Springs, gage set , 4 sets of wheel covers , convertible top frame , engine parts (intake carbs water pump? ), fender skirts , brake drums and other brake parts .
The gauge set cluster is worth around 100.>> the used 4 sets of wheel covers from the bird, are the same as 55-56 ford, they sell at 25. each if they are decent, the bird conv soft top frame is worth 2000. minimum, intakes and carb sets are usually 50- 150 depending on what year, fender skirts for a bird sell for 250-400>especially if they have the chrome trim on them, some brake drums on birds and pass ford cars are no longer available>>soooo.
I understand your frustration, but do not throw away the parts>>> in the least, go to your local Craigs List and list it all>>> gaurantee you that a ford guy will come by with cash in hand>>and buy it all.
If you were not so far away I would make an attempt to buy all, shipping is a deal killer for me though!!!
Warm regards,
John

When I think of the free parts and assistance I've received from people in the old car community, this thread makes me sick. itsa292 could care less about honoring his father's passion for the hobby and instead just wants to profit from it, or he'll toss the parts just to spite those who many not need the parts but want to save them for someone who might. He just doesn't get it.
I'm glad he has no interest in the cars or the parts because frankly he'd give the hobby a bad name. It does make me wonder why he'd trade his parts for T-Bird valve covers if he "could care less" about this stuff. All this guy cares about is correcting grammar so he can feel smug and superior.
Time for me to go down to the garage to cool off and listen to my Y-block. Sorry for the rant.

I sell my extra stuff on ebay, no reserve, starting bid is the cost of the ebay advertisement fees, the stuff sells and you just never know cause the market decides. In the end it's gone and somebody who wanted it got it. I don't do it for a living, I just think that the stuff I keep is good stuff that somebody wants.
Anyway itsa292 your attitude has been terrible here from the onset, ie. the reactionary comments and the insincere I'm an English teacher answer, therefore please consider my offer for the clock withdrawn, put it in the dumpster.

I like the way this guy corrects other people's English and grammar and then commits about a half-dozen grammar, structural and punctuation errors himself. I caught all these and I'm not any kind of teacher. Just an old truck driver that had good teachers many years ago.

PWH42 (4/11/2013) I like the way this guy corrects other people's English and grammar and then commits about a half-dozen grammar, structural and punctuation errors himself. I caught all these and I'm not any kind of teacher. Just an old truck driver that had good teachers many years ago. I noticed this, too. I don't know what it is, but the second someone corrects grammar or something similar on a site completely unrelated to that, I notice every single error they commit.
itsa292 (4/11/2013) That tells me you all know its worth and are trying to get something for nothing. You should get to know people better before you judge them. I have no clue of it's worth. I know that you threaten to scrap them which means that a price you are willing to accept is $0. I don't need them. You effectively want nothing. So I made an offer based on that. I merely want to save them from scrap. I really don't want them because all they will do for me is take up space and gather dust, but that's a price I'm willing to pay to save them for someone who may need them. I won't lie. I may sell them if I find someone who needs them. Then again, maybe I won't. If I'm in the situation you're in now, I'd give them away to someone who can use them or hold onto them. It wouldn't be the first time that's happened in the car community and it wouldn't be the first time it's happened on this site. You had an offer for $25 plus shipping, which is more than you will get to scrap it, so what is the problem? If $25 is the highest offer you get, maybe that's what they're worth. If you think they're worth more, name your price and stop playing this game. Maybe someone else will agree that your asking price is fair.

itsa 292: I don't want to get further into a discussion of who is right or wrong re your post.. however, may I suggest that you might want to advertize on another car site or Craigslist etc. Other sites may have much broader coverage & more likelyhood of interest. The vintage parts you have are almost 60 years old, it would be a shame to have them destroyed. I'm sure someone will be interested in them..

I didn't sell them to a salvage dealer. I had no idea what these things were worth. So, I asked for offers. I then found out what some may be worth. But still I don't give away anything to anybody. The valve covers were for a friend that mentioned them. I don't know what they even look like . I have a hobby that I enjoy and make money at when I have a part someone wants. I am a pilot . I have 3 planes and I rebuild them for customers. Parts are a part of my hobby too. But we sell ours because unlike the 50s Fords you guys have being so cheap giving parts away is common. My hobby is totally different. Pay $15000 for an engine, 20 grand for electronics and maybe you'll see why we sell parts. Those Fords aren't worth keeping at their cost. Maybe if you all had an education and some real money you would understand. But I am sure that wont happen. Cause yall rednecks aint smart enough to make a big lots of money. Live in your trailers and rot!
The parts I had are in the garbage dump. Not sold for scrap.

itsa292, If your airplane engines only cost $15K I would not put a foot in your tail draggers, obviously we understand your philosophy regarding philanthropy, and as for the name calling and derogatory comments well good luck with that going forward.
Speaking to the insignificant cost of this hobby, click on this gem Cragar Y-block Blower Intake I'd really like to have it but unfortunately I just traded all the manure I had for new trailor tie downs.
