I am looking for a replacement battery for my '56 Parklane. I have found quite a few available (29NF) but almost all of them are 13 inches long. The battery clamp down bracket allows for a battery a little less than 12.75 inches (the max width between the holes for the clamp down bolts). I note the really expensive reproduction batteries are 12.5 inches long.

I did find a 12.25 inch long battery from Battery Giant (29NF-420); NAPA's battery 7280 is close at 12.875 inches. Has anyone found any other options? By the way, the replacement battery tray I got from Mac's isn't very good -- the holes for the bolts aren't elongated for the flatness of the end of the bolts and they don't fit through the bottom of the tray!

Thanks,

I got one from Interstate and it fit properly. No mods or messing around. The battery tray I got from Tee-Bird also fit fine.No problem.I think they came from Dennis Carpenter.

I got one from NAPA that fit without any problems.

I bought a Super Start from O'Rielley's for 1/2 the cost and it fit perfect.

Mine is one of those long skinny ones. I got my first battery from NAPA & it didn't last much more than a year & it was a commercial battery & wasn't guaranteed for very long, seems like 6 months total replacement. I have since found that Interstate makes them so I'll never get another NAPA one.

My Interstate one is now 2 years old and works fine.I do keep one of those Battery trickle chargers on it all winter. That helps.

Thanks for all of the feedback. I had assumed the dimensions listed on websites for the battery size were the dimensions for the top of the battery; I've found that the base may be a little bigger than the top and that the top tray I have fits fine.

This shouldn't be so hard, but the tray I bought and the hold down bolts don't seem to fit very well together. Here is a picture of each end of the battery tray:

And here are two pictures of the battery tray upside down so you can see the how the hold down bolts attach to the battery tray. Is this correct? It doesn't seem right to me.

I don't know if that is right or wrong but it's not how I'd expect it to fit together, either. Do you have an original for reference? Is it made in China?

The old one was pretty shot and I stupidly pitched it before I got the new one. I got the new one from MAC's -- as far as I can tell, all of the ones sold on line look alike, at least according to the pictures I found on the internet. Here is a picture of the tray from Ford's parts book:

The one side of the tray in the Ford picture is clearly different than the one I got from MAC's. The slots make sense to me and it looks like the hooked end of the bolt would slip right in. Here is a picture of the tray from MAC's:

I definitely got what is pictured on MAC's site. I thought maybe the round hole at the end of the tray needed to be elongated, but if the bolt is positioned that close to the end of the tray, the bolts will not align very well with the top tray.

Ford dealers sold 29NF batteries. That is where I bought mine. It has lasted about 4 years now. Price was competitive. It is a commercial battery.
