I have a 240v one cylinder air compressor with 125lb pressure and an 80 gallon tank. If I add a second tank will it increase the volume of air I can use without the compressor starting? Has anyone done this or know anything about it? When I run my sand blast cabinet the compressor works pretty hard and dosen't keep up with extended use. It does stop within a minute or two after I stop blasting. I'm trying to get more consistant pressure during the blast process. Chuck

Chuck, I had a guy repaint one of my work trucks years ago. He buried a big propane tank outside for extra air so he could paint with a small compressor. I added a 50 gal water heater tank upstairs in the garage here, but when I sandblasted the truck I'd still run out and have to wait for it to catch up.

Chuck,yes you will have a longer use time before the compressor kicks on,but after that it will still run the same amount in order to keep up.

Chuck ,We are running 3 tanks 80 gallon's each, but the compressor still runs to keep up with the blaster. Any other time we have plenty of air.

Thats about what I thought. It's really not bad just a little irritating.

Yes we are getting plastered! They expect up to two feet by morning and by the looks of it they are correct. The coast is getting hit the hardest. I feel sorry for the folks that havn't had a chance to recover from the hurricane and now this! The last report I saw predicted almost three feet in Maine. I guess the snowblower will get a workout tomorrow. I just replaced the skids with some wheels and am curious to how well they will work. Hope this is the end of it for this year. Chuck

Moonshadow, when I painted my M100 I only had a Speedair 110 volt compressor. I borrowed one of those dual tank Honda powered compressors (that contractors use) and hooked them together with a Tee. I set the pressure so that the gas powered one was slightly less than the electric one. That way the gas compressor only kicked in when the electric one got below its setting. I also upped the hoses and connectors from 1/4 " to 3/8". The gas compressor had way more cfm than the electric so it kept the Speedair tank more or less full. The output from the gas compressor pulsated a bit (because of the small tanks I think). The larger tank on the Speedair bufferd this.

What about a different compressor motor that can keep up but on the same tank?

Sure Charlie, its only money! It took me years of running hand me downs and home made compressors to finally own a complete new one. Its not a major problem but if the compressor fails I will upgrade it. Chuck
