Have a set of bare 471 heads that I'd like to find a new home for. Not sure what they're worth. I had them milled .010", new guides and seats. These heads take the big valves and have large 82cc chambers (little less after the cut) like the '57 supercharged heads. Perfect heads for a supercharger or turbo build. I ran them on my 312 in my '56 Merc for about 8k miles. Wanting a higher C.R. and have a set of 113's I'm rebuilding. Newbie to the forum... please don't assasinate me!

Welcome to the Forum, Jeff.
I know you're going to find that this is a different type of information exchange group than many that are out on the Internet. Members are extremely helpful, considerate, and cordial. No questions are treated as 'stupid'. Seldom are replies to questions merely an off-hand remark. While many may view a topic thread, those who participate by replying have something knowledgeable and constructive to share.
Apparently, yesterday was the ten year anniversary for this website. What's invaluable is that even though you may not have been here all along the way, the information previously shared is in the archives. The search function allows you to access old threads on a topic. Like any search engine, to retrieve all that's available regarding a topic you'll want to use more than one descriptor to find everything. Example: 'dual quad manifold' and '2x4 manifold'.
Thanks for joining our membership. I'm sure that some of your experiences in working on your Merc will be helpful to others as their questions are put forward.
Regards,

Jeff. Welcome to the site. Any idea of what kind of price you’ll need? Some other questions that will come up with a serious buyer is whether the heads have been magnafluxed and/or thoroughly checked for cracks? What kind of guides? Valve seats been replaced? Have the guides been machined for ‘positive seal’ valve seals and if so, what size seals? Any port work? Etc. As a FYI, those heads work well with pistons that have a 10cc dome.

Found my receipt from the machine shop. Heres what they did:- valve job
- magnetic particle inspection
- resurface head- milled .020 (previous post I said .010- i was off a bit)
- replaced guides (type not specified)
- replaced seats
Heads use std umbrella seals. No port work. Would like to get $500 out of them. Located in Nashville, TN Open to offers.

FWIW, I just sold a rebuilt set of heads, magnafluxed, milled .010, new guides, new seats, valves and springs checked and replaced as needed, new seals. Total price in the swap was $350. That was exactly what I had in them. However, I had no receipts to verify work. I could have gotten a little more if I had receipts... Stick around on here a little while...you will get a buyer. Welcome to the site!
