Can someone tell me or post a picture of how the wires are routed into the doors for power windows. I am installing power windows and would like it to look some what original even though a ’55 Ranchwagon never had power windows (maybe a ’56 Parklane?).
The easiest looks like down by the lower hinge but is that where it originally was routed?

Even a picture of a T-Bird or Sedan door jamb with power windows would help. Just so I can get an idea where the wires go from the jamb to the door before I punch holes.

Ford electric manual shows routed below top door hinge. Round hole in frame into oval hole in door. Send me your e-mail address and I can try and send copy. Good luck!

The TBirds used a wiring shield that bolted to the door. No idea what the sedan used, but maybe something similar. The part number per the Tbird catalog was 20768/69

That's what my 'bird looks like, as I remember it was a bit tight for both window and seat wires on the drivers side. I don't think I could have gotten wires for doorlocks in, had I wanted them. If you don't have the slot in the jamb, the hot rod sites have some good alternatives that use round openings. Electric Life comes to mind. A couple friends have used the contact style jamb products, with mixed results.

Miker, I'm not a big fan of the contact style you mention, both for looks and function. Even the factory ones in our Ford Windstar give us trouble. Seems the speakers cut in and out and sometimes we have trouble with the side sliding doors.

One thing to remember about contacts on the door jambs is that they only work when the door is closed.

Thanks.You need or could make this curved channel that supports the wires through the piller. Once you have these, align with door frame and drill hole, adding rubber grommet to protect wires. Hope this helps. regards bill. yyy

Bill, Excellent. Now I see how it is/was routed. My door jamb has the indentation but is not cut out, nor is the hole in the door. Makes alot of sense now that I see a picture. I'm assuming the curved channel is metal? I don't imagine the channel will be easy to find so I will attempt to fab one but at least you set me straight.

I drove my '63 Galaxie yesterday, and noticed it also has one of those formed channels, so you might find them on later cars and don't have to look for mid-fifties stuff.

The one in the picture is for the Full Size car. This is the one I'm putting in my '55 Ranchwagon. Little more expensive than some kits but really nice design. Made in USA.

Master Cylinder did you complete the windows, if so how did it go? I really like the retro fit without drilling and am curious if it works as stated and if you're satisfied with the product. I don't mind the price if the install and operation work well, thanks.

Brokengate, All I can tell you at this point is the Nu-Relics regulators are really nice looking and should bolt right in. I haven’t worked on the installation since Ol’ford Nut sent me the picture of where to drill the holes in the doors (BIG help, thanks again) and I drilled pilot holes. Oh, and I removed the glass, channel and old regulators.
I got side tracked installing Aerostar front springs, and then I decided to run wires for electric door locks at the same time. Need 5 wires for the windows and 5 for the locks. Going to need a big piece of conduit between the door and pillar. I was going to use some of that rubber accordion conduit but can’t find any big enough but have some ideas.
And lastly too keep my wife happy?? so she allows me to play I decided to tear down a wall in our house between the kitchen and dining room to open it up some. She’s been asking for awhile now and since the weather is getting cooler I thought I better get to it.

Master Cylinder what happened to the days when a honey do was sweeping the side walk after the wife mowed the lawn? That is a joke if my wife reads this. I will pay attention if you continue to post progress on the windows, the electric locks are interesting but I'm leaning toward shaving the handles and doing door poppers. Are you going to install the sound deadener material on the outer door skin, haven't taken a good look to check on installation possibilities, but all I've read says it is a good benefit.

I was thinking about shaving the door handles but I wanted to keep it somewhat stock looking so I decided on electric locks and keeping the handles.
I want to put sound deadener in the doors but I’m going to wait a bit because I have a little bit of rust in the front bottom corners of each door to fix. This would definitely be the time to fix it but I want to wait and do all the bodywork while I have my body man hat on. I have my electricians hat on now.
Any way, sound deadener. I painted the complete floor with Rust Bullet then installed Dynamat.

Brokengate, After all this time I am still working on the power windows. After getting back to the windows after completing some of my other projects I decided to go ahead and replace the window guides and anti-rattlers and the seals on the vents. Seems like this is one of those projects that once you get into you keep finding things that don't have to be done right now but if you don't you will have to address it at some later point.
Then I finished cutting the holes for the wires and finishing the wiring for the power windows and power door locks, I installed the power door locks.
Ordered the Nu-Relics Power window regulators and received them late yesterday afternoon. I have to tell you I am impressed. I've used other "universal" power window kits and this kit is in another league all together. Very well built. Comes with new rollers and wiring plugs.
