Looking for a tach drive distributor for my 292, seen em with dual point, i would love to avoid that but I'm not sure if they made them with out. Was looking at

http://www.ebay.com/itm/390451454567?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649

but I don't know what a stock distributor would go for, and building on a budget means i get the lesser of the two wallet busters.

Anyone lead me in the right direction?

There are only two options that I know of. Mallory made a dual point dizzy for a YBlock (Thunderbird application mostly) and the stock TBird tach drive for a 57 (55 and 56 had tach drives, but they are load-a-matics). The 57 Bird dizzys go for $500 or more. Mallory does not sell them any more, but you might find some stock at a place like Speedway or the TBird parts suppliers.

My opinion - better off with an electronic tach unless you have a early TBird and want to use the factory hole.

I agree with Paul. But, I did wait around patiently for a 57 tach drive and got it on ebay for less than the going rate somehow and glad I made that choice. But if you don't have a tbird I would go for the MSD in a heartbeat. All electronic and ready to go and I hate admit it but more practical than the cable tach.

I have a Mallory Unilite in my '56. Replaced a W&H Du-Point (straight from the Edelbrock catalog, in the car since late '56).

I hate dual points, but to each their own.

Been very happy, and very easy to set up. Pretty limited on advance curve (set up with factory '57 Bird curve), with no vac advance and some folks have little good to say about them, but I'm happy and it performs well and runs strong to 6k rpm in a mild 312. Concours parts sells a tach cable for it, that fits perfectly.

I bought mine on amazon.com for $365 or so. Very pleased, though it's 1 1/2" or so taller than the old dual point. No clearance issues though.
