Hi Bill,

I was working on a 94 Yamaha YZ 125 for my nephew who got it as a basket case, got it together but now there is not enough spark, I can get a faint orange glow with the spark tester but its not enough to lite a plug. I ohmed the coil and it appears ok. Should I be looking at the CDI or Stator for the culpret?

I know its not Y related but I Appreciate any help,

Bill, Check the obvious stuff like the plug wire and connections first. They go bad on bikes pretty quickly. See what kind of voltage you're getting to the coil with your ohm meter voltage tester.

Thanks pegleg, I dont have any books or anything to tell me what I should get but it appears to me if there is a faint voltage coming out of the coil the stator is probably ok, its just not getting amplified by the CDI, so I think he is looking at a new CDI.

Billy:      Been away a few days....If it's the cdi box, let me know and I'll get you a price...The aftermarket

     doesn't do these, but I may can get a better price....there's always ebay....BUT electrical parts sellers

     need a good feedback score.... If I can help, let me know...

Tim,   A couple of weeks ago, a customer brought in a '74 Dt-1 Yamaha that was in his dad's garage for 25yrs

    and wanted me to get it going if possible. I cleaned the carb(it looked good) no ethanol back then...It wasn't firing,

    I dug around in my JUNK pile, found an old set of points.....it was running in 30 minutes!!! I called him and jokingly

   told him to bring his helmet, and he could ride it home. His wife drops him off and he rode off into the sunset!!!
