OK, so it's Sat nite- I've got buddies due over in the morning to help with stabbing the new 292 stroker with AOD tranny and I thought I had every known thing worked out - but now after another test (on the floor) when I put power to the starter it engages and spins the flywheel and engine over just as it should but it is not disengaging. So, I can't seem to find anything binding or misaligned? Could I hope that under full install and the engine being ready to fire, that it would kick back into disengage or is that wishful thinking.

I'm too close now to have this kind of a hangup.

thanks for your opinions.Smile

Are you "ground hoping" or starting the engine? If not the starter may not disengage. When the engine starts RPM increases and kicks the starter drive away from the ring gear. Chuck

Not starting it yet, just cranking it through while it is on the stand. Hope you're right about it kicking away after start-that's what I'm hoping for. seems like this minni starter should be cranking the engine over faster?

Oh Oh, forgot about the adapter. I was thinking of the old style bendix. Take the starter off and spin it with jumper cables. You can usually hold it with your foot or a large vise. See if it turns fast enough on its own. Bendix should kick in and out with power application. Hope this helps. Chuck

Hey Al! Are you sinking or swiming?

Hi Steve, yes I'm still progressing slowly. The new stroker engine and trans are back in the car to replace all the mock up. And the interior is still out of the car so I have any number of areas to spend time on on. Don't have much of that right now but hoping soon to get headed back in that direction.

I never did get the starter to disengage-so as some have said-it will when the engine fires. I'm counting on it.!
