Well the T5 is finally in and working great! After 5 stitches in my friend Alex's thumb, pulled muscles in my back and installing the T5 twice, that is!!!
Just want to let John know his adapter worked great, other than we had to pull the T5 out again, because the input shaft was hitting the crank. I am not complaining John, just not sure if this is normal? Took about 40 thousands off the end of the input shaft with a grinder, and it works fine. Is it just the tranny I had or should the adapter, be slightly thicker? Just food for thought?

Rob, Food for thought, if it was touching and you only removed .040" you may have wanted to leave more to allow for thermal expansion and thrust end play. Should it come together up to temp may be hard on input shaft bearings and crank thrust bearings. As long as the shaft was fully in the pilot would have been enough even if there was 1/4" clearance between shafts.

Billy, all seems to be ok. The end of the input shaft was just touching the crank. It appeared to be touching on the bevel of the input shaft. I ground about 40 thou off the end (guess, could be more) and then re-beveled the input shaft and there seams to be no contact. I was quite impressed when I revved her up to 3 grand, dumped the clutch and got Old Vicky, right sideways!!! Also now with my 3:55 gears, I am revving at 1800 RPM at 60 mph!!!
WELL worth the work!!!

It is pretty normal for the pilot to contact the bottom of the hole in the crank. I had to cut off about 3/16" on mine.

Wow, sounds Great! Do you have posi in yours? 9"? if not you will be going that route soon. I shredded a universial and splayed the the yoke open on mine before going 9". The overdive gear helps a lot, I think I am about 2200rpm at 60 with my T10. With the T 10 I am not afraid to bang gears, but the T5 in my mustang was only 2 weeks old when I bought the car brand new and when I hit 3rd the trans just exploded. I never been that hard on since but first and second I have never had a problem, I just don't hit third so hard anymore.

Billy, Yes I have a posi (3:55 Detroit locker to be exact) I have taken it apart right now as it was moaning. Turned out to be a worn pinion bearing, gears are in great shape.
As for shifting, yeh, I bang them hard!!! Was told the issues with the T5 are the sincro's if you over shift. Put a B & M Ripper shifter in it with shifter stops, hopefully this keeps me from grenading a tranny!!!

How do you like the Detroit Locker compared to a more common clutch or gear posi?
