I am working on a Dearborn Deuce. The car has brand X engine and auto transmission. I am interested forum members opinions. I have an excellent 120-140 HP 1952 Flat Motor with the usual go fast goodies and stock displacement connected to a C-4, with tremecs in the wings, I like OD. My quandry is I love the sound of my Y-Blocks, a warmed up 3 duece 292 in 56 Sunliner and a F Bird clone with C-4 and Gear Vendors in a 50 Club Coupe mild Custom. Has anyone put a Y-block in a 32 clone that can share the experience? Does Mumfert SP do "crate" motors? Price with Al Heads? Votes for which way to go? I have a customer for the brand X stuff. I am going to search site for Tremecs behind Y's.
Thanks for your help!

My vote goes to Y. 140 hp is not enough for proper tire smoking.

Mounting the Y is pretty straight forward. Using a front style instead of the side mounts will allow more choices on headers. Actually I don't think it would be all that hard to set up for both the flathead and the Y. Then you could play with peoples minds all the time! Chuck

Boy, what a decision to have. I like 'em both. Maybe the "setting up for both" idea would be a neat if workable.
I saw my first Dearborn Deuce a couple of weeks ago when a group of Florida rodders stopped here in Monroe on their way to the L.A. Roadster Show. What a beautiful car. This one had a Roush 427 crate engine.

It seems that if a front mount similar to the old Hurst was made up for each engine with the mounting points the same to the frame the swap would be a quick afternoon. Set up both for the same transmission would make it even simpler. Of course it sounds easier when someone else is doing the work. Chuck

Go for the Flatty. Too many Y-Blocks out there now, it's getting to where we aren't unusual anymore.

This months Hot Rod mag. has one with a V-12 Lincoln. Cool as hell. IMO there has never been a prettier motor than a decked out flat head & a nail head Buick. A really "souped up" flat head just sounds bad ass! I don't know why, maybe the Siamese exhaust ports. There is a blown flat head Ford 8N tractor that comes to Turkey Run & it sounds like a full blown race car. Then, on the other hand, back in the day (50s) a Y-block '32 wouldn't have been unusual. It would be different for sure. At any car show you go to you'll have the only one. Other than Moonshine Run in Dawsonville GA. it is unusual to see a '32 with anything but a SB Chevy. I expect a prepped flat head would probably be more expensive but either one would be a ton of fun....

Thanks for the input! I am going to put the flat motor in the car with a T-5, I can always do a Y-block if I don't like it.
Thanks again

Sounds like a good plan Don! Good luck with it. That's the route I would've gone.
