Talkwrench, I like it!!! What are you plans I see that the Ardun head are being remanufactured http://www.ardun.com/ but you'd need deep pockets. nice pickup I'm green with envy. Cheers Warren

Excellent! Looks perfect as it is. Flatties are super-cool too! How about a pic of the engine compartment?
Hope it's not inappropriate, but here's a pic of a nice flat head in my buddies "new" roadster. One of the nicest I've seen. Most of the engine parts are originals not repops.

Nice Truck!
If it had a scrub than the choice of a Y replacement would be easy. But it would be much harder to replace the Flatty.

Don't know where you live but try to keep those black 1935 CA plates. Don't see them very often. And nice truck that you have attached to the license plates too.
I was looking at a set of 1951 plates with '55 tags and a Clear title (which means I could register them to my '55) at Long Beach Swap Meet. They wanted $650.00 for them. Too rich for me.

Believe me if you can keep those plates it will be unique. California plates stay with the vehicle througout its California life. They were issued, I think, from 1963 till 1969. The Hot Rod rebirth. They have a unique history being on the car/rod they were issued to. Keep them and if nothing else put them on at shows. You will wow the crowd. Chuck

Great looking 35. Yeah it would be a neat place for a y block, but it would be hard for me to replace that flattie. That's a cool roadster too, Grits.

Cool Truck. i wouldn't change a thing.
Those look like 1951 plates. used until 56 or so. 56 to 62 were Yellow with black letters. Then the black plates came out, used until late 60's or 1970 when the blue plates with yellow letters came out.
Starting in 56, Cars had 3 letters and 3 numbers. The plates you have are probably commercial.

Look closely at his plates, they are from 1935. Similar to these.
1951 plates are rounder. These are like the ones I was looking at for my '55.
In California if you can find a set of plates for the year of your cars, you can register it under those plates. So in order for me to use them on my '55 I would have to get some '51 plates and the year tag like this in order to use.
At any rate, your truck is awesome and I think have the original plate makes it that much better. By the way they used to stamp these a Folsom Prison.

Fantastic buy!! I love it! Love the old patina too. As much as I like Y Blocks, I love a flatty just as much. Don't change a thing!

I started out as a BIG fan of the flatheads and still love to see them "properly dressed". Then, in 54, Fords new Y-Block came out and that was a deal changer. I hope I didn't come off as wanting him to pull a good flathead just a thought for down the road. If another engine was needed. That truck appears to be pretty stock with some 60's California mods. Not sure about the suspension but it does set low. Super nice truck and a survivor. I think I'd keep it just like it is, patina and all. Chuck

Very Cool Truck. Dont change at thing. I dream of haveing a truck like that for a daily driver. I had a 55 fairlane identicle colours to your 56 here in Aussie. the picture of your car gave me a real feeling of day ja voo. Mine eventually got repainted and dropped to 3 1/2 inches of the ground. I sold it 10 years ago and haven't seen it since.

I don't know if things have changed but when I was in Australia in 1969 guys were looking for North American plates to use on their rods for car shows. Especially if they matched the year of the car. I'd keep those plates.

I just found out .. when my friend went around to look at the truck the owner did tell him that the plates are just for show. He failed to tell me that ..ahh oh well..
