I spoke on the phone to Ralph and Sam Alix (had to cancel my plans to go with them ) And it sounds like those of us who are still sitting at home are missing out again. Lots of fun, food, racing AND I could hear that unique rumble in the background!
See you there in '08

We're back home. Great weekend. Gordon Payne and Gary Burnette won everything but the Wet T Shirt Contest. The Y blocks made a terrific showing in the Bracket classes and won the Bracket 3 on Sat (Gary) Paul Johnston won the '57 shootout. and Gary took the Y Block shootout. Hoosier and Bob Martin both have broken cars, hopefully cheap fixes. Lotsa fun, too much food and a lot of good natured ribbing. Saw some GREAT racing. Shoulda been there!

Hi guys, Got home 3:30 pm monday safely.Had a great time again. Congratulations again Gary. Tom still feels bad about breaking Bob's car. Tickled to death how well the little blue truck ran, considering how awful it ran the weekend before. Missed you and your car Jim. Lot of new y blockers to meet. Charlie, hope you get your truck running right. How did the guys do sunday after we left about 4pm? Count me in for a sunday shootout if Bob can pull it off.

Dennis didn't mention, no red lights and I think he's got his 239 powered Effie close to running in the 17's. Try that on.

Hey John, Sorry for your hardship, but when you set the pace you do, something, sometime has to give.
Keep us posted on the rebuild. I'd like to see some pics of the internals on that baby. Probably top secret though!

As usual I had a great time! The Y-Block gang is the best! Gary's Bird has the strangest sound and launches so hard! I can't wait to see Charlie's shots on your tube. I'll see you all next year. Chuck

Charlie, I got serious when I took the spare tire off. That was hard for me. 1st time it was off since 2003.

Pegleg: What did you do, take a nap after the racing? Your memory is slightly cloudy. Paul took 2nd in the '57 50th anniversary shootout. Gordon took first by a reaction time tie breaker. Billy Schwing came all the way from Phoenix to grab the third place prize. That's right, thanks to some extra donors in addition to the participants, there was $130 to divvy up, paid three places. Thanks to all who participated. John

Al: Don't have it apart, but all indications are broken rod. Made a noise at about the 1/8 mile and vibrated terribly. Kicked it in neutral and coasted off the track. When I tried to crank it, I heard a knock once per revolution. After some discussions it was suggested I crank it over to see if the belts turn to check for broken crank. When I did, it fired once. So I got brave and started it, one cylinder was not firing and the vibration was terrible, even at idle. Knock was gone. 5 pounds oil pressure. I drove it up on the truck for the trip home. Y's are built Ford tough! We missed you again this year, but check with the Alix brothers. I don't think anyone treated them poorly. John

Al: Thanks for the support. My next project will be going over my combine to make sure it is ready for harvest, so the It has a growl deep inside, there's a bearing going bad somewhere. Hurricane may not be subjected to an autopsy very soon. There are no secrets inside that engine, stock crank, C2AE rods, ancient Crane cam, .030 over TRW forged replacement pistons. My wife now has a digital camera, maybe I can learn how to take and transmit pictures. I still had a great time with all the guys, meeting new friends, and watching the racing. Also enjoyed seeing Gordon have a ball racing my Bird. John

You're getting serious with a gear change, Dennis. I'm quite impressed with the performance of your truck. 6volts and a 239, getting rubber off the line with a low 18 second time. Wow, I did not intend on that to rhym.

Ok Frank, so WHO won the wet T-Shirt contest? Or maybe, we don't want to know! Sure wish I could have been there. Hopefully work won't interfere next year.

And I too wish to express my thanks to all that made this a very enjoyable time. Always great to see old friends as well as making new ones. And a big ‘Thank You’ to Barbara for guaranteeing that everyone was getting enough to eat and drink as well as keeping an ear to the radio and insuring that the Y racers were getting lined up for their respective brackets in a timely manner. I’ve already sent a couple disks of pics to Jim so He can put them on the site so be looking for these somewhere in the near future. And for all of you that took digital pictures (doubt seriously there were many of the other kind anyhow), please forward them to me by way of snail-mail on disks and I’ll put a ‘Best of the Best’ together and get these sent out. Just email me for my snail-mail mailing address or get it from one of the following links. http://www.y-blocksforever.com/html/eaton.html http://www.eatonbalancing.com/ Here’s a pic of some of the Y players at this years gathering.
