Replacing main and rod bearings as a precaution while my engine is apart. Crank and bearings look fine but never a bad idea to go with new ones just in case. Local parts store ordered a set of .020 under mains and .030 under rods. Came up with $180 for mains and $96 for the rods which he thought was way too high. I checked Summit and they were very close. Anyone have a cheaper source? I am thinking this is the going rate. If so, no problem. I will stay with the local guy as long as he is in the ballpark.

Apparently 312 Main bearings are in short supply. Did you check J. Mummert's link? Also Schumann's Sales & Service, 227 W. Mayne St. Box 128, Blue Grass IA 52726. 563-381-2416 fax 563-381-2409. Also Egge Machine, Address ? they advertise in Hemmings etc.

Further to prevous post.- Found a Schumann's Ad from 2008. Cleavite 77 Con rod bearings were $48.00. However Cleavite 77 mains were $168..

Mummert lists rebuild kits but not the bearings seperate. Will check Ebay. Sometimes we have to pay to play.

Decided to bite the bullet and go with the local parts guy and a known quality of materials. Got the body back from the painter today.

As far as I know the Falcon Global bearings come from Taiwan. That may or may not be a bad thing. I haven't bought any yet.

Be advised that Clevite has discontinued 312 mains and Federal Mogul might be doing the same so we might all be trying the import bearings soon.

I saw Summit trying to sell Y-B rod bearings for $23 a PAIR!!! on ebay. So that's $184 a set?

That set of -.030" 312 mains on ebay is missing the thrust main.

As I stated earlier, I went with my local parts store and the $180 mains and $96 rod bearings and name brands. I think the mains were Federal Mogel and the rods were Clevite but I not able to check my records on the brand names at this time. Summit's prices were about the same as the local guy. There may be cheaper engines to build, but I still love my Y-Block!! Machine shop is done with the block so I should be able to start with short block assembley soon. Need to install dash pad in car so windshield can go back in also. May do that first because I find it better to do the jobs that I hate first.

Chrysler mains can be made to work in a 312.  The thrust main takes a bit of "engineering", but the other four can be used as is if new tang notches are ground into the block and caps.  If you can salvage your original thrust bearing the rest is a relative easy modification.  I covered all this several issues ago in Y-Block magazine.
