Some of you know another aussie on here, SCOTTY. Had visit along with a few other hotrods recently and is keen y blocker that has been working on y block rod for many years, he has one of the 3 rare Cragar blower intakes over here and was elated to have got his car recently completed and registered. Hope i,m not stealing his thunder but here is sneak shot of the engine. Good job scotty.

Aussie Bill what part of Australia are you from? I spent 7 or 8 months down there in 1969/70. A friend and I toured around the East coast from Noosa Heads down to Melbourne in a 1961 Vauxhall Victor. Something in the steering broke loose near Bendigo. We found a guy with a repair shop out in the boonies. I think it was near the black stump. He had the car for a day and the bill was $21. I ended up working at Monash University for a few months. I knew this girl in Springvale (near Melbourne) who had some friends who were into cars and those ocean going race boats. In March 1970 we all went to a car race outside of Melbourne and saw the legendary Stormin Norman Beechy and his bright yellow Holden Monaro GT. He was up against a former Canadian, named Allan Moffat. He had a 68 Mustang Boss 302. I think it was sponsored by Coca Cola. At that race I found out you can win a race if you have better brakes. The Mustang would jump ahead of the Holden at the corners because Moffat could wait longer before he hit the binders. I remember it like it was yesterday.
Cheers, Mark

Cheers, MarkMark, I,m in NSW, sydney, yes those days of beechey, bob jane and indeed our hero allan moffat who went on to be a ford legend with many wins for ford including the famous Bathurst races in 71.72.73 falcons. And yes i too can remember things from 50 yrs ago in accurate detail including those races but am struggling with memory of current times, P.S sounds like you were chasing the surf and the chicks???? nice to recount your visit. regards bill.

I know that's a loaded question!Frank, i dont know any history of these, how many made etc, i guess how well they worked compared to what? is not answerable, it is well made and guess modern technology may make improvements, but you may agree there was nothing else at the time so feel it works ok. As you say frank, I cant really add much more.

Wow, that image of Moffat's Mustang with the left front tire off the ground and the Holden behind is exactly how I remember it.

Crager was pretty good in the day. With the opening for the blower there is not much left in the way of runners. Once pressurized I don't think if would matter much how they flowed. It looks like the ports wer larger too. I'm not sure a "modern" design could improve much. I'm currently working a deal to get at least one of these but its going slowly. Wish me luck! Chuck

Chuck, Thanks. They didn't even have a divider between the ports! I'd heard before of 50's "porting Experts" carving out the dividing wall in the heads between the ports. Doubt if it works,but..........I've been wrong before!! Bill: those Fenton (?) Valve covers are Bitchin', You really have some neat stuff.

Frank, I think that the adapters that Randy made for his dragster to use the scrub intake, were just one big hole with no divider. I guess that pressure forces the mixture to which ever cyl that has a valve open.

moonshadow, that's a olds intake. the old cragar 4x2 intake for the olds was open also.

I figured some of the intakes were not Y but the basic upper configuration is the same. Sure would like to find one. But I'm not prepared to spend that kind of money. Chuck

Chuck Chuck, while waiting for cheap cragar to come along, you coould make intake using offy tripower, the center mills out nicely to fit plate and weld on, you can see center divider in top shot, just my take on making one. yyy

Randy used a dual 4 barrel manifold and basicly did the same thing. I know thats a working idea. I'm trying to come up with a simpler approach. Thanks. Chuck

I think the dividers between the runners can be open for pressurized systems but don't work so good on naturally aspirated due to the reverse pulse actions when valves are closed. May work for wide open but not for street use.

The cane intake which was tested during the intake dyno tests had open runners and was pretty bad. Better at high rpm but still lacking over many other intakes. But that was not under boost.

The Y seems to really like long divided runners. That may NOT be true with Mummert heads and serious cams, but I'd have to see it.
