While I was in Daytona for the Turkey run I seen a 55 or 56 Merc with the basic non fresh air heater,I have seen only a few in the Fords but it was the first in a Mercury and would those heaters be more common in southern cars since its usually warmer there.

Probably a buyer who was too cheap to get the good one Smile

I have a friend who just bought a 56 scrub Bel Air convertible. Six cylinder, three speed, no power anything. Must have been a cheap sob who wanted a convertible.

I still have the paper work for my 55 and was suprised on the cost for the fresh air heater and a radio, the heater was 71.50 and the radio was 87.50 which was big money in 55. The power pack option for the motor was only 38.00 and I would have not got the radio and waited for one to show up in the junkyard or went aftermarket.

Had a '57 Chevy convertable for a while back in '67. 265 engine two barrel engine, power glide, power steering, radio delete, manual top. Woman I bought it from ordered it that way.

Having lived in FL most of my life I found it not uncommon for cars delivered in the deep south to be ordered without a heater. Aftermarket or basic heaters were probably installed later. I had a friend from Miami with a then new 1960 Chxxy that had no heater.
