Hey Guys-

Not exactly a Y block project but here's the skinny.

I'm putting together a 1970 Ford pick-up, short bed stepside as a daily driver. I want the gas tank out of the cab and I can't have the fill spout at the rear of the truck (using a Ranger rear bumper).

My understanding, cause I've never seen one, is they are 28 7/8" wide, 22 1/8" long and 8 3/4' deep with a fill spout on the left (driver's) side. If this is correct I can make it work.

Right, wrong????  Please let me know.

Thanks in advance

Wrong, the filler goes out the center rear. I think the tank that you want is a Mustang unit.

I've seen it done out the center and to the left. I imagine you'll be doing the fab work. Get under there to figure what needs to be done to make it happen for both outlets and choose the one you feel most comfortable with.

If you get on some truck specific sites like FTE or slick60s, you can see what others have done.

Thanks for your responses. I've been on the FTE site and it was said the Mustang tanks are used a lot but they have fill spouts that come out the rear.

It was the FTE site that said a 57-58 Ford passenger car fuel tank (Ford part #B7A9002B) held 20 gallons and had a driver's side filler. Apparently they got that wrong.

mike, the wagons and rancheros had the filler on the left. There is an extensive post on it in the technical section
