Hi guys, I thought you might want to get a little laugh from what happened to me at milan dragstrip in michigan this weekend. I went up there to crew for a friend who runs a scrub gasser with the great lakes gassers. Second pass we lost high gear ( hows that generous motors powerslide workin out for ya?) so we were just hanging around watching the rest of the JUNK scrubs run and the guy who runs the great lakes gassers comes over an wants to recruit my buddys 56 scrub. The guy says he is trying to grow their club and needs more gasser type cars so my buddy tells him "Stan has a 55 ford gasser". The guy sez "got any pics?" so I showed him"thats really cool he sez whats in it?" I said a 292 Y-block and he sez" put a scrub in it and I'll sign you up! After I got over the urge to rip his lips off I looked at him and politely said" why would I want to destroy a great car by putting a junk motor in it like you did to a nice willy's?" Yet another moron with with a belly button car! Y me, I attract em' like flies!

I've found myself to be in that same minority as you, Stan...The great state of Mississippi is lousy with scrub owners.

Its certainly too bad that they (the scrub lovers) have such an opinion of other peoples motors. I can think of no better member for a "Gasser" club that your Ford. Maybe you need to do a bit more work and go up and dust some of them off! I wonder if the rest of his club feels the same way? Was everyone up there running scrubs in their gassers? How sad. Chuck

Stan,

I just sent this email to the club. Lets see if they respond. Chuck

Tim,
I just read this posting on the Y-Blocks forever website. I hope this attitude is not representive of your "Gasser Club". To exclude a car based on engine is ridiculous. Watching your website video I see Falcons and Comets. Are they all running or required to run GM (scrub) motors. I believe someone that was representing your group owes Y-BlockStan an appology. Feel free to express yourself on the link provided. http://www.y-blocksforever.com/forums/Topic63884-5-1.aspx?Update=1 You don't have to be a member or sign in to post. Chuck in NH

Stan, Have you visited this thread on the HAMB, Hot Rods Pix of '55-'57 Ford Gassers - the "other" Tri-Fives. Your car would fit right in.

Way to go Chuck, by the way we had a cackle fest at the ODRR show, I was parked next to a Blown Hemi with zoomies, so I fired off after he shut down. The people standing behind the cars told me that the yblock was louder and sounded better than the Hemi, of course it reved so quick that I bounced it off the chip a couple of times.

hi chuck, we were pitted next to a guy with a pretty neat falcon gasser, till he took the hood off, you guessed it scrub power. there were guys running some hemis too but for the most part scrub city. there was one guy there with a old school dragster with a blown olds in it, 394 I think that was really nice but for the most part it was the same unimagative stuff. I guess I like different to much. Stan P.S. They also want you to be no faster then 9.50 or slower then 12.50. I am glad you guys are'nt that picky.

There is a guy in my neck of the woods with a real pretty 50 ford gasser (Ted you listening, very similar to your 2 door, I'll have to get pics for you) and yes it is scrubbed out, what a shame.

But don't worry, we have to get shirts made up of Dougs RIP cartoon saying "Were back" and get more gassers and cars with these killer Y blocks, they will start waking up, especially after the engine masters.

Good job Chuck!

Chuck, What was the address you replied to, I would suppose if they got an overload of messages like yours, they may listen a little.

hey guys, I was'nt looking to start a war, I just thought you all would get a chuckle out of how highly they think of their scrubs. I surely don't need to join any more car clubs, I would rather run with people who are'nt afraid to play with toys that are a little different. Anybody can buy a scrub off the shelf race motor, bolt it in and go as fast as they want, Not everybody can make stuff thats a little off the beaten path run.The stuff they are running still has huge support by the performance industry. Other then guys like Ted Eaton,John Mummert,Jerry Chistenson and the rest of you that keep striving to squeeze a little bit more out of a design that even Henry's boys gave up on speaks volumes. They think their so hot  lets see em' put Y-Blocks in place of their  scrubs and keep up with us! O.K. I am getting off my soap box now.

Not a problem Stan. I did get a reply from one of the leaders. He assured me that other brands were welcome and didn't think that anyone in his group would say such a thing seriously. I pasted your quote and told him I sure wouldn't want someone representing me with such a negative attitude. Anyway, thats done and done. We bored old guys like a good fight on occasion. I believe if you see this group again they may be a bit more diplomatic. God knows they can keep their scrubs we need someone to beat anyway! Chuck

I'm with you Stan, the other engine that impresses me is how fast some of the studabakers are. I always like someone taking the different route and making it work.
