I was going through parts and hadn't noticed before that the supercharger bracket was mounted to a water pump that is different than any other pumps that I have.  Below is a picture of pump.  Part number is EBV-8505-D. What was the square flange coming off top of pump is used to mount? Is this the correct pump for a supercharged car?  Randy

That pump is off a 54 or 55 truck. The fan mounted on the 2 bolt flange.

Large trucks used that type pump after 55, not certain of the last year.

That's right ........The high mount pump was used in 239 and 272 powered big trucks. There's 2 models (one for the 239 and another for the 272)

You probably don't want it for your car but you could stick it on ebay and probably get a fair amount of money for it since they're getting scarce.

Many auto parts places won't sell you one unless you have a core to return or will only rebuild your core.

Cheers,

Rick

John/Rick,  Thanks for information.  I just wonder why the supercharger bracket was put on that pump.  Randy

That would be any ones guess I suppose....

If it fits, someone probably thought they could use it that way. If the high mount flange doesn't interfere with anything the only other problem with using the high mount pump is the shaft size.

It is frequently smaller than the other pumps. I think "standard" size is 5/8" dia and I seem to remember my previous high mount pump having a 1/2" shaft.

Some, most likely quite a few trucks were retro fitted with the aftermarket supercharger kit. In the day gas burner trucks needed all the help they could get. I had a supercharger and brackets that were removed from a 57 truck. Chuck Cline (Moonshadow) has it now.

do you still have that water pump? I'm interested in it, if you want to sell it .

Yes I still have it, sent you a PM.

Be aware that the pickup/truck water pumps with the fan mount extension were supplied for both the 1954 and 1955 & up timing covers.  As such, there are two different pump sizes with the fan mounting bosses when it comes to fitting the different years of timing covers; small bolt pattern and large.  Here’s a picture of just one pallet of Y-Block water pumps that’s sitting in the core building here.
