Can you put different heads on either side of the block?  For example,  I have a blown C1TE head.  Do I have to replace it with another C1TE head?

You can use any YBlock head ( 54 excepted because of compatibility problems)and it will fit the block and intake. But you will have to deal with different valve sizes, different compression ratios, different port sizes.

Without seeing the head, that's a lot of corrosion to be leaking. It may be able to be welded. Check with a head shop or engine rebuilder.

A replacement C1TE head shouldn't be that hard to find or a set of more desirable heads. You can turn a bad experience into a positive by buying a set of G or 113 heads you'll gain some efficency.
