What do y'all think? I like. They were chrome wheels I acquired from a salvage yard. About 15 hours of work later:

I will paint the fronts to match, in color, anyway. The old tires were 225/70-15 on Ford 15x7, 4" backspace rims. The new tires are 275/60-15 on 15x8, 3.5" backspace rims.

I like the look of the wider rear with narrower fronts.  I not sure if the color of the wheel goes with color of the truck though.  But if you like them that is all that really matters.

Once painted there really gonna look nice Charlie.

My computer showed black wheels at first and now I'm seeing purple and my computer is loading up real slow. Charlie beauty is in the eye of the beholder, paint them whatever color you like. My brother Jack likes to paint his motors purple and I'm OK with that too.

It's a love it or hate it thing kinda like a George Barris custom. Everybody does black so I definitely was not going to paint them black. It's definitely not traditional so I don't expect many will like it. I've always liked purple and green together, kinda like The Joker from Batman. I liked it even more inside the cab, on the way to the tire store, where the turquoise (that's what Ford call it, if you ask me it's green) is not faded.

Regardless of color, it's remarkable how freshly painted wheels will "clean up" the truck.

Hopefully I'll now have better traction on wet roads.

My hobby is customizing hotwheels and building realistic models. These are for one of my rare hotwheels unibody pickups.

Tee Hee Tongue I got the joke... I like it.. Purple is a hard color to pull off but if the top section goes a shade or two darker on the green I think it will look good.. Like the Joker.. Cause every girl's crazy 'bout a sharp dressed man.

Charlie,

I just wanted to say that I really like the tires and wheels.  Just a little hot rod, just a little off road, just a little NASCAR.  That overdrive will really come in handy now.

Dustin, are you talkin a little Billy Gibbons trash now?

Here they are fresh out of the salvage yard. Nice and rusty.

Has anyone used black chrome lug nuts, or black chrome anything for that matter? Is it as durable as regular chrome?
By MoonShadow - 13 Years Ago
Charlie,
I havn't used the black chrome ones but can tell you don't waste your money trying to save money on lug nuts. Last set of chrome ones I got for my Mercedes went to the crapper in one year! I've even tried to powder coat some and its not much better. That said check out your brands and go with a known name. Sure hope we see the real truck this year and not that model you keep taking pictures of! Wink Chuck in NH

Oh, I'm not going to go cheap on them but for instance, ARP black oxide bolts will rust within the year here in Atlanta, (actually only a few months) but in dryer climates, they will not. I mostly don't want something like that happening but also quality chrome lug nuts don't chip and I'm curious if black chrome is as durable. Ultimately, I guess, if I have to be the Guinea pig, I will.

Charlie, PASS on the black chrome. Altho nice to look at, black chrome is softer and less durable than good quality chrome. I would only use black chrome on something I didn't have to put a wrench too.

FYI, My "Strand Cruiser" bicycle frame I had Black Chromed and it is beautiful with red anodized rims...
