So my little brother and I stayed up late last night to get er done!  We changed out the tranny fluid, differential fluid, bled the brakes...put on the new tires.  Way past my bed time....I was risking my marital status...but some things just need to get done.

I had no idea how the brakes would work, so I put my escort wagon in the driveway so if I couldn't stop I'd just ram into the back of the escort (sorry little buddy).  I was so focused on getting going with without stalling that I almost forgot about the escort!!  thank god the brakes worked!

It has been almost 2  years since I blew the tranny on my suburban brining this thing home from my grandpas farm....so this was a momentus night!  Sorry for the light level in the video, I'll get a better one soon, but thought it was important to get the very first forward motion!

Nate

Just don't forget to bring home some flowers and all will be good. It is a great feeling to see your work show some progress. It will make you work even harder on it, (hince: the flowers) good job!

Sweet! Congrats on getting this far...Reminds me of the days when my younger brother would film me working on a 56 F100 with a 272 Y block. Driving down the road sitting on a crate, with no front end sheet metal, in a suburb of DC. GREAT stuff! Tongue

How did that clutch feel? Oil pressure doing pretty good?

tim, I've still got theoriginal one on there right now...it was the straightest path to get her running with my limited time.  But now with summer around the corner I can hopeuflly get her home which will make it easier to start tinkering with.

Daniel...the clutch seemed pretty good....lots of travel in the clutch pedal compared to the more modern 5 speeds Ive driven!BigGrin  Hard to know for sure only driving forward 20 feet and backing back into the garage!  I assume driving her around things will loosen up some.  Can't wait to get her licensed and titled and get some daytime video!

I don't have an aftermarket oil pressure gauge, but the idiot light comes on with turn the key and goes off when the engine is running.  The oil runs well in the driver's side rockers...and to my delight I noticed that it is even starting to trickle out on the passenger side!  So maybe over time driving with some more modern oil the passenger side will open up a bit more.

The clutch  pedal should have about 1.5" free play. Anymore and it needs adjusting. There is a nut on the rod to the clutch arm on the bellhousing. Any less and it may slip. Chuck in NH
