I'm looking for a decent 312 crank to make a stroker for our new Uni LSR. I will pay $150 + shipping for one with no welds and a good radius. 010/010, 020/020 even a 030 would work for me, just no welds. Thanks!

Hmmm, Mummert wants $450 for a core and your wanting to pay $150. Gee, that was helpful. Core value generally equals the PITA value of finding a replacement, not street value.

I don't know what PITA means, but, I'd say good luck trying to find a good 312 crank, especially one with say .10 thou under mains & throws at $150.00...

I believe it's an acronym for Pain In The A$$ but I don't know what that has to do with it...

I thought it was etiquette to ask if anyone had a part, the seller to respond with a price then the potential buyer to either haggle or walk away. "But don't you want to haggle"

I offered $150 if that dosn't sound fair don't sell it to me. The fact is that I have paid less for them and thought maybe someone might want to help the cause. I guess I came to the wrong place.

Tim, the last time I bought a good 312 crank (I think 3 years or so ago), I paid $163 and some change, and that was on ebay after all the bidding to boot!!! "Cactus" has the crank now in his built engine that had that coolant leak issue...I tried to get another block for him, but don't know how that turned out. As of right now, I want a 312 crank too... but the mains aren't a big deal because I am going to turn them down to 292 size. $150 is more than fair. Cranks are always a "pig and a poke" anyway......Who will ship it across the country with a fail safe guarantee on an original part that old anyway? Hope you find one, and $150 is fair price. I had one on the line for about $175 the other day, and ones within your specs, but I could never get the owner to respond to my contacts, and now its been sold.

Tim is in the ballpark, a 312 crank in good condition is worth $150/$200. The problem that we have, I call it the Barrett-Jackson syndrom. Some people because they have more money or credit than good sense have paid way too much for parts and cars in the past few years. No way a ECZ-B intake is worth $450, but I saw one sell for that on Ebay. Tim I am sending you a PM.

I can't stand people who use core prices to gauge the value of something. A guy had 4 engines for sale here. 3 of the 4 were stuck. He said so and so place charges $400 for a core and so he wants $250 each. I offered considerably less - they're stuck, may be absolutely worthless, how will I know, and then, of course I got the lowballer, scum of the earth speech. He was one of those guys who likes to play the scrap card and when I pointed out that my offer is slightly more than he will get for scrapping them, he starts with the oh, well, but, umm back tracking. Needless to say, I did not get them.
The PITA or core value has more to do with ensuring that you get a core back. It's usually high because it encourages the customer to return a core for a good chunk of change and it enables the shop to continue to provide a rebuilt product to future customers. If there is no charge, then cores will not come back, the supply dries up, and the shop can no longer provide the product and this affects everyone. The same is true if the core price is too low.
Prices are also typically higher when buying from a business rather than an individual. Business overhead can have a lot to do with it but what usually comes with the higher price is expertise, and, believe it or not, a more personalized service; if there are problems, you'll probably have a better chance of returning used products or making an exchange with a business. Businesses generally want happy customers. For individuals, this doesn't really matter.

Proof again that the Y-Blockers are at the top of the heap when it comes to being 'fair' and in this case generous.

Tim Speaking of TRUCKS, how are things going on the build? I thought Tod would be putting up some pictures of it back on all fours by now.

I do believe Todd has more important things on his plate right now, give him time.
