I have not heard anything on the NMRA and their plans for 2011, but I had a very interesting phone call last night from MR Sol Stewart, a long time drag racer here in AL and through out the south. He still has the 57 bird that he started racing in the late 50's although it no longer has the 312 in it. Apparently there has been some discussion on the FE forum about their get together and everything is up in the air. Long story short, Sol and Dick Brannon{Thunder Bolt racer fiom the 60's} are planing a FE weekend at Montgomery Motorsports Park and he called to see if the Y block crew would like to join in. Plans are for a show and drags. They have talked with the track owner and he wants to combine it with a Pro Mod event to draw the crowd. Dick did the Ford reunion at Bolling Green, KY and was not pleased with the support that he got from the NHRA, so they are looking into Montgomery. They are working on some sponsership and looks too be a good show. He asked if I would throw it out to the members and see how much interest we had. If any one wants to talk more about this, I maybe able to get Sol to join the forum to answer questions

I can definitely be there in person. Looks like it's pretty much straight down I85.

Sounds like a great time!  I like FEs as well as Ys!  Too bad it will be a bit of a schlep for me. Whistling

If this event comes off, it will most likely be in late summer or early fall, around the time of Columbus. I know that many of the participants at Columbus would find this to be quite a drive. but if the rumors about the NMRA are true, we may have to look at other options to keep the shootout going. I don't think that Bob Martin or Harry Hutton frequent the forum, but if someone who has their contact information could contact them to see if they have any information on the status of the NMRA. I am sure that we can get a pretty good showing from us southern boys, but only if it does not interfer with Columbus.

Glen:

I got an email from Bob Martin a couple of days ago.  We are on again next year at Columbus.  Labor day weekend as usual.

Thanks John, that sounds good too me. It is sure a lot cooler up there in Sep than down here. Maybe the show for the FE guys will work out for them.

Well, keep us posted on the FE thing. Just under 200 miles is a lot different than the 600 to Columbus. That means there is a higher probability that my truck will make it.BigGrin

Charlie, I'm going to stay in touch with Sol and if this thing comes together, I'm sure we can get a pretty good showing between us and the 57 Ford crowd. By the way, the Falcon should (will) have made a few passes by that time. I'll be posting an update on it in the next few days and weeks. Things are coming together!

Hi Glen, I would really be interested in a Y-Block/FE Get-together in Columbus or in AL. I think it would be a rousing good time. I miss the Y-Block shootout so much cause I don't have a Y-Block powered race car anymore. My 60 Fairlane 4 door Mayberry Sheriff's car had a Y-Block in it but I swapped it out and put a 390 FE in it with a top loader 4 speed.  That is not to say that I won't ever have a Y-Block race car again because I still plan on building one. If we had a Y-Block/FE Shootout our event would do nothing but get bigger and more fun.

How about a Y shootout at Bandimere Speedway sometime. It would be neat to see how the Y's would run in the Rocky Mountain thin air!
