Hello,

I was wondering if anyone knows of a company that may offer a clutch and pressure plate kit that is more performance then the factory clutch. My friend owns this Customline that bone stock and the clutch is slipping and chattering and he's looking for something with a slight more grip any help would be great. He's also thinking of switching to a 4 speed floor shift any transmissions recommend? such as years or what not. Thank you

I put in a Centerforce Dual Friction clutch and I'm very happy with it.. Its a diaphram clutch.. Go to the centerforce web site and look up the different ones for ford and you should find what you need. You will need to know what diameter the input shaft is to match the disc and the size of the disc (ie 10 or 11 inch). You also have to find out the number of splines on the input shaft.

I bought mine from Street Side Auto (877-787-8989) and had free shipping (and no BS on "handling charges) and the best prices I could find.

As far as a four speed, you can't go wrong with a top loader (T & C) from Ford. If your lucky and get an early one, the bolt pattern is the same as the Y. Second best would be a T-10, but these are pretty scarce as Ford only used them two years.

Call Robin at Superior Friction in San Jose, CA (ph 408-436-1101).  He can put together any type of clutch combo you want.  He put together a diaphragm pressure plate/kevlar disc/continous duty throw-out bearing combo for my 1956 Ford F100 that is very smooth and no slippage behind a 309 ci Y.  He is a nice guy and knows clutches.

I'm also using a Centerforce 11" clutch and pressure plate, but stayed with the mechanical clutch linkage. I'm pretty happy with the set-up.
