Here are links to a couple of sound clips of a iron headed drag race Y engine making in excess of 500 HP through the mufflers. Turn up your speakers and enjoy. You might want to pull your feet back away from the speakers though. 500+ Horsepower dyno pull 1 500+ Horsepower dyno pull 3 Thanks go to Jim for recording these on his I-Pod while visiting.

Ted, you were close! Actually I recorded it on my iPhone. That was a real treat to have ringside seating to this awesome powerplant firing up and "getting down". What my little recordings just can't relay is the smell of the race gas, and the vibration that courses through your entire body when that thing hits peak RPM.

That is pretty well ringtone for mobile phone.
I got Y-Block ringtone (not 500hp) in my work phone and I get some odd looks from my Toyota driving work buddies.

Ted, Wow my new engine sounds great! I only wish it would be that good. Great sound. Is this the new EMC engine? Chuck. Sorry. Not your engine and also not the EMC engine. This is an iron headed racing Y with more compression ratio than allowed for the EMC competition and more camshaft than I have in the EMC entry. A very stout combination which is being crated up now for delivery to the customer.

I don't think it would fall under the 260CI class your in Tim, it then may put you up against some pretty stiff competition.

So Jim what kind of RPM's were you doing with that motor??

Cool Ted! Can we put it in the Brick? Although not 500HP, the loaner engine is back. It’s 314 cubic inch though so I don’t know if it’s something that can be used. I’ll be putting it on the dyno after Columbus just to see exactly what it’s making as it runs much better than originally expected.

Unibodyguy (8/19/2010) So Jim what kind of RPM's were you doing with that motor??If asking about the sound clip, the engine is at 7200 rpms before bringing the throttle back to idle.

I've now listened to it about 10 times in a row. I hope you don't mind if I convert this to a ringtone. I LOVE IT! Thanks for the post.

Highvoltage (8/24/2010) wow! sonunds great! what kind of conecting rods are installed on that engine?Eagle H-Beams in that particular engine. But I do have the C2 truck rods in another engine (the aformentioned 314 incher) that was being being loaned out and was being run at 7000 rpms on a regular basis.

Since you are loaning out engines and I lent you a manifold for testing, you may as well loan that 500hp engine to me for columbus. I promise I'll give it back after the races, please, pretty please with a cherry on top!

Billy. Afraid the 314 incher is no where near 500HP but it’s respectable (whatever it is) regardless. You should have hollered earlier as that 314 engine could have been sitting in your engine bay for Columbus. As it is, it’s just sitting here in the shop corner awaiting some dyno time just to see what kind of power it really makes. Plans are to eventually put it in my race prepped ’57 Ford when that car gets close to being completed but I suspect it will be loaned out one more time before that happens. P.S. Look forward to seeing you again in Columbus in just a few days. And I’m bringing your 3X2 intake along with me.

Ah shucks! I wanted the 500 horser. Just kidding! Who in the world would dare to borrow your motor and for what reason? My little 301 will be there, similar to what Royce just wrote about in YBM but I have my cam advanced 4 degrees like he initially did, I am wondering about that but he was shooting for peek hp on the dyno and I have never put mine on a dyno but was just shooting for some low end torque since I have only been to a christmas tree once before in my life. Columbus is going to be one hell of an experience for me.
