Take a look at the attached link. I have NOT used them but they have a custom setup for 55 & 56 Fords. I haven't seen anyone else that uses the original dash heater control setup like they do. They also have a Alternator bracket and passenger side A/C bracket (from Alan Grove a part of their kit) so you have the best of all worlds.

I saw a nice in-dash diffuser installation this year in St Paul at Back to the Fifty's. I'm not sure what brand of A/C unit it was. I talked to the owner and he said he had it professionally installed. It looked nice. Smile

Good luck,

Kansas,

Was it all the old radios?  Classic Auto Air told me it would not work with the round radios.  I was trying to see if their 55 ford kit would work in my 55 Mercury. I like my original radio too, we have an AM station that plays 50's music full time and it just seems appropriate.

Does anyone know if there are significant differences between the Ford and Mercury in the dash area that would make the application not fit?

I know the controls are different and I would have to work something out there.

I bought an under dash unit from Southern Rods n Parts in SC  for that very reason. Installed great and works the same. But, mine is in a TBird.

I installed an under dash unit in my 56 Fairlane. Works great and we needed it this summer.

Some manufactures have hollow ABS sample A/C under dash units (pigs) you can use to do a test fit. Sorta like the guys that make the poly engine blocks with all the bolt connections so you can test fit your engine & trans into your car for a test fit. I'm not sure which manufactures have the test units but a few phone calls should yield an answer. The other option is to make a few calls to some HOT ROD shops that install A/C systems. They may be able to give you some help in the selection of a under dash unit. Then if you want to install the unit yourself you can. Let your fingers do the walking... There may be a Merc forum out there that can help you, too. I know that some mfgs make A/C & alt mounting brackets to fit Y-blocks.

Good luck. Your Merc looks cool.
