For those in need of some rainy day reading - or just an incentive to build a little horse pressure of their own - take a look at www.saltflats.com and check out the 130 & 150 mph club rulebook. Hoosier knows a man (Miller) that put his Y powered sedan somewhere close to the 150 mph club - about fifty years ago! Several years ago a friend and I (on a business trip to Elko, Nevada) stumbled across the freeway exit labeled "Bonneville International Raceway" at the Utah line on I-80. After a quick look around (and reading the BLM sign that says "be careful and have a nice day" where you drive down onto the salt) - we returned later that year for the SCTA speed trials. This is a place so cool, and so dear to the hearts of motorheads - it is an absolute must see in person sort of experience. "The Worlds Fastest Indian" is a great movie - a very true to life depiction of the meet - but barely does justice to an event where the majority of fans present are the racers themselves - not many drive out there just to watch. The pits reek of methanol and these guys don't especially go for nitrous oxide - 40% nitro-methane is more their style.
The fact that the USFRA will allow street cars to try this on for size just makes me want to put a rollcage in the bird.........................
