Thinking very seriously about buying a complete replacement MSD eletronic distributor for my 292. Any reports on there good and bad points would be most welcome.

I just finished installing mine with no problems at all. It fits very tight with a Blue Thunder, but if you are careful with the dist. body position when dropping it in there is more than enough room to adjust timing before the vacuum advance hits the mani.

It uses HEI style plug boots and has a retainer that fits the buttons on the top of the boots. Very nice feature but you will need to get new wires or buy a boot kit. I had just installed new wires so, I bought MSD's boot kit for about $8. No problems with that either.

The only bad thing (a caveat really) is that it has no mechanical tach drive. I have a 'bird so this affects me, but I just got a Mooneyes tach and modified it to fit the stock 'bird bezel.

The only reason not to buy one would be the price.

After the stock dist. seized in the motor and the gear broke lose I went straight for the MSD.   Dropped right in, and besides me blowing a fireball out of the carb because the timing was a full rotation off when i first tried to start the motor (whoops) I haven't had any problem.  It is perfect.  There have been a couple discussions about this unit recently, and the feeback was all good if I remember correctly.  Poke around the forum and you'll probably find em.
