Hi, big thanks for showing us all your unique galaxie with y block engine, i would love to own it. the y block sure looks at home in that engine bay, best regards and merry xmas from all!.
By 46yblock - 15 Years Ago
Nice, but it is amazing how much extraneous stuff can be stuck inside an engine bay.

Cool car.......But, you should put those plug wires where they belong!

Just my opinion. Wink

I have all the supports for the stock spark plug wires, but can't find decent ones. I wanted a quality set, specific for the Y, but here is almost impossible. This ones are very good stuff 7mm silicone wires, but they are too long, and, of course, not the best color. The spark plug boots are too long too, making impossible to use the stock location, the wires would touch the exhaust manifolds.

I can find really crap wires, not resistive, and very low on durability, made in China, and I really don't want to use this kind of stuff.

NGK of Brasil had top quality wires for the 272/292 Galaxies, but they stop producing them, and now they are near impossible to find.

The good stuff from FoMoCo is also impossible to find in Brasil. I'm thinking about some Ford Racing wires, but the sets for the 302 (easy to find here) are too shortSad

Any ideas?

Do an online search for the wire retainers. Places like T-Bird products and Carpenters will have them. They also carry some plug wires.

I wonder if the accessory bracket from the Argentine Y-Blocks would work on ours? Chuck in NH

PS: Nice looking Ford!

Might be expensive, but you can get a set of wires from the US which you can cut to the length you need. There are many high quality sets available this way.

Tulio,

You have put a great deal of time and energy in that Ford.  I like it very much.  I think you were very creative with your accessory drive.

These "over the cover" wires were on a big truck arrangement. Looks like they are cookin'.....

Your Too lucky! First thing I noticed was your heater hoses are missing, but you have AC. Wish I was there with you.

Sweet ride, and as said, that Y looks right at home.

I resist posting Epay so as not to draw additional attention to auctions fellow members may be bidding on, but here is a wire set you might be interested in, and the holders are available from nearly any Tbird parts supplier for similar money...

Very nice car!  BigGrin  I think you have done a wonderful job, it's good to see some of the South American stuff.

Did you get the Phase 2 engines in Argentina? The body looks like a US 1967 or so.

I heard of a Brazilian 1972 LTD with a Y-Block that turned up in the States. Not sure the exact year they changed to the Phase 2.

By oldcarmark - 15 Years Ago
Very nice wheels.John Mummert says 67 but its actually a 65 Galaxie 500 with some exterior trim differences like the taillights. As far as wires I purchased the ones on this sellers last auction.Dont have then yet but I am sure they will be a better fit than the aftermarket ones I have now.I prefer original Ford parts over aftermarket when I can get them.I just received an order from Dennis Carpenter .(Ebay item # 110462489012 if anyone is interested).I bought 2 of the lower control arm mounting kits consisting of 2 mounting bolts and 2 bushing as well as washers and lockwashers. The parts are made in China. Not real impressed but I assume they are up to the required strength rating.(I hope so anyway). The bushings are not as good as the Moog ones I already have.Much "softer" rubber used in the Chinese ones.As I said I prefer original Ford parts when available.Anyway its very interesting to see this beautiful Ford from Brazil.

That's a beautiful car.The body is based on one of Ford's all time great cars, the 66 full size. The hood is the same as a 67 fullsize Mercury.Very nice car!!!!!!!!

Thank you for the support.

I have the spark plug wire retainers, what I can't find are the wires.

I have little experience with the Argentine Y-Blocks, but the Brazilian engines, are just like a '56 272/292 USA engine, sience the production started back in 1956 to fit the engine bays of Ford F series trucks.

When Ford started producing the Galaxie here, the car was the '66 US model, only with an Y in place of the 289, 352, 390, or 427 engines. After all, the Y was already in production, and other engines would need to be imported, witch was difficuld at the time due to goverment restrictions.

My car is a '74. In '73 Ford did a slight facelift, with a different hood and taillights ('73,'74,'75 Galaxies were just like mine, except the LTD version).

Back in '69, the engines were updated to 292 C.I.

My buddy Maycon did a rebuild on a '56 Ford engine, and the only difference betwen the US engine and mine were the spin on oil filter adapter.

I belive, that the fase II argentine engine has some sort of head change? never saw one thought.

My accessory drive is stock from Ford (I'm not that creative hehe) only with an adaptor to use a Sanden compressor in place of the stock York.

Yes, I removed the heater hoses. Who needs a heater in Brasil?

The A/C is a necessity.

My other galaxie, a 1982 Landau still has the heater in working order, and the York compressor, as well as the factory paint, vinyl top, and upholstery. The engine is a 302 Windsor, thet ford used since 1976 in place of our beloved Y.

I think I would end buying a set of wires from E-bay, but not just now, I spent a lot on the engine rebuild.

Verrrry Nice Ride!! Do the Y-Blocks in your country ever get these heads? They also require different exhaust and intake manifolds.

Jim, are you located in Argentina? Wish I could read the Advertisment... And you both write English very well. Thanks for sharing your Y-Blocks...
By lovefordgalaxie - 15 Years Ago
Jim, the Y-Blocks here in Brasil never got this kind of heads. Our heads are just like the North American heads, with the two central cilinders on each head having the exhaust valves side by side.

This heads, appear to have the valves in an alternate mode, like e/a, e/a, e/a, e/a.

Bob, I don´t know about Jim, but I'm from Brasil, and have being in the States once.

This heads on the Mercado Libre (Mercado Livre in portuguese) or Free Market in english are made in Argentina. I think they are what in Argentina is called the "fase 2" or phase two Y-block.

I never saw one of those heads in person, only in pictures. I think that a USA made camshaft would not fit an engine with this heads.

Its very interesting that the central cilinders don't have the exhaust valves side by side, that's just the starter of all the discussion about the steam holes. In theory, the Argentine made Y-block phase two, would never need the steam holes at all.

I woul love to see the exhaust manifold of one of this engines.

Would it look just like a bigger version of a 302 manifold?

Greetings to all: Very nice Galaxie very well done. I'm not too good with this computer so I'll have to enter this info by brute force. Last year I purchased a beautifully tailored, very high quality spark plug wire set for my 64 292. Fit perfect in all the Y-block grommets as intended. The bad news is it wasn't cheap.
