I recently found out something interesting, I had picked up a large table from a paper mill to use a s a work bench, the top had grease and grime and graffiti all over it. I had some cans of engine degreaser and thought it should work good so I sprayed it down a couple times and gave it some good elbow rubbing and wiping and barely nothing came off. I had a spray bottle of Fantastic handy and decided to try that, lo and behold the thing cleaned up perfectly with one wipe of the fantastic.

So don't waste money on engine degreasers, just spray with Fantastic and rinse, it appears to work 100% better. Next test will be on an actual engine.

Some oven cleaners will take off anodize. We use Smart and Final Degreaser. Like 409 only concentrated. 1gal makes about 8 gals.

For a safe degreaser use "Simple Green". I buy this at Home Depot and it works great!  I even recomend this at work to degrease refrigeration coils, cleans well and will not attack the aluminum like other degreasers. Nice thing about it is it is also enviromentally friendly and can be washed down the drain. Doesn't smell bad either!!!  LOLBigGrin

I had a camper that developed the black lines down the side.  An old timer told me to try Fantastic.  Well it worked......Fantastic!!!.  Removed the stains without any scrubing.  Spray on, rince off.

Timbo

Funny thing is, I have always used lemon dish soap to clean up engine grease. I also windex to clean up old paint when I don't feel like waxing an entire car (and really, who does?)

Just remember this- any product that states it is "Environmentally Friendly" or biodegradeable is talking about the product BEFORE it is used. The junk you are removing and washing down the drain might not be, so check with local authorities before doing so.

I manage almost 20 shops and all of them use and like Simple Green but all our wash water is run through a oil-water seperator before going into the city sewer system. And we received a discharge permit from the city allowing after we sampled waste and provided th city.

I buy a cleaner called "Mean Green" at the "Dollar General". This stuff cuts through anything and it makes white wall tire look new too.

If you like Fantastic or 409 you'll love " LA's Totally Awesome"

I buy it at my local dollar store. And its made in California.
