Check out the best looking Y-BLOCK you will see in a long time .John Mummert ,Pat Fleischman and Frank Rice all get a mention in the story .It 's great to see Hot Rod builders ,putting in REAL Hot Rod motors into Hot Rods. All we need now is for the owner to step up to the plate at Columbus ?? I would to hear that motor sing ?? Regards Lon http://www.hotrodscustomstuff.com/blue-32-23.html

Lon, Next issue of Y Block will have some more of it. Would love to talk him into bringing it to an Expo. Would that be neat or what? Frank

Lon, thanks for posting the link to this. I just finished looking at all the photos!. What a great job. This car will set apart from all those others with this engine and craftsmanship. Would like to see it in Columbus.

I'm thinking about that, Lon, but Columbus is a long way from Seattle. There was no way to give enough credit to Pat, John, or Frank, either. miker

Miker , Is that your Hot Rod ??? Columbus is a heck of a lot closer to you than me ? I've managed to make the 9000 mile trip for the last 3 years. That car has to be a contender for AMBR award . You sure get my vote . Regards Lon

Yes Lon, that is mine. I know how far you come, and the first 6000 or so miles must need the wipers on high. I appreciate the compliment, but you would have had to seen the finish levels on the AMBR cars to believe it. I did, however, build the motor here in Seattle, although the only guy in town who would try to hook up a Y block to the dyno had a heallth concern and I had to ship the engine without running it. The pic's don't show very well, but the T'bird valve covers are the ones I got out of NZ several years ago. Thanks

Mike, You realize, of course that we'll try anything up to and including blackmail to talk you into bringing that car to Columbus. OR how 'bout we all come to Wa, and stay at your place? Frank

Well, that's the problem with cut and paste, but the rest of it correctly id's the motor. Frank, at the cost of gas, I can buy more burgers, and a fair amount of beer, than we can eat. Bring your diamond slicks, its' what we use to race in the rain at Pacific Raceways. Unfortunately, my girlfriend is the one who took that picture

There's a new Rod magazine out, called, appropriately, Rods The roadster is in the Pamona coverage. Have you been approached by any of the Mags to do a feature? Evidently my toothless threats about Columbus aren't working! Frank

Hey Mike, I'm still drooling over the roaster (and the "trophies" but don't tell my wife) , but we have to twist your rubber arm. I would kill to see the roaster in person, besides, don't even complain about the price of gas. I don't know what Lon pays, but I am usually paying over $4.00/gallon. I won't even ask what our freinds over in Europe are paying. If Bob Linsey can make it from Oregon, we surely can convince you So I hope to see you at Columbus my friend, think of it, Lon has come all that way every year just to get his butt kicked , so it must be tons of fun! Frank, there's a snapshot in the coverage of Rod and Custom, and possibly something in Street Rodder. Can you get me an address on Rods? With custom rodder gone, I'm being forced into reading the mainstream publications where I don't belong.

Mike, I'll grab a copy and mail it to you, It' easier than trying to find the address.( More bribery) Frank

Woooooooooooooooow!! Sorry about the misprint, my tongue was hanging down on the "O" of the keyboard. Thats a true blue (Oval) hotrod. Who made the headers? I need a pair of them.
|
By miker - 17 Years Ago
|
Those headers where custom built on the car to clear everything. There's a remote oil filter and cooler under the drivers feet, and the tri-y's had to go around them. Jerry Christiansen (sp?) builds nice units, and Sanderson makes several versions, including a new one for the 55-57 'birds. Mummert sells a 'bird header that might work in other applications. It's made by a guy up in my neck of the woods (Seattle/Tacoma), using flanges made by some other guys up here. They require a bit of relocation on the side steady bars, using a heim joint. None of them will work on my 'bird unless I relocate the steering shaft for the R&P, so I'm still running a set of Red's.
