Well, about a week ago I got my intake and carbs back from Dick York (dickshotrodplace.com)

He does some beautiful work! I had initially sent him my carb's only, then decided that I should upgrade to a 573 intake from the 553 that I had to better suit my 312, and the "G" heads...

To make a long story short, I finally found one and he set the whole sha-bang up with a new linkage...front/rear carbs have no idle circuits and are true "secondary" carbs, and most all driving will be done on the center carbs. These carbs are all 1 1/16" throat, and have been on the car (with the old 553) since late '56. I doubt they ever looked quite this nice though...

Thanks for looking. I highly recommend Dick's Hot Rod Place...Looking forward to putting it all back together with the old Hedman headers, and the "G" heads that Tim just finished up for me...w00t

Oh me likey-likey!!!

What is the difference between a 573 intake and a 553... is the 20 differential some sort of volumetric measure?

Cheers... Brian

The 7 was used by Edelbrock on their Y-Block manifolds (maybe others?) on the large port manifolds.

553=smaller port 3x2 intake

573=large port 3x2 intake

255=smaller port 2x4 intake

257=large port 2x4 intake

I couldn't imagine the size in port/runner size until I had them both in my hands. It's my understanding that you can run the smaller intakes with the larger heads, but not vice-versa. My 'Bird had the 553 on top of the "G" heads for over 50 years...and it ran strong, but there's always room for improvementBigGrin

The 55 and 57 refer to the year they were first designed/made.The 3 is a 3X2 barrel manifold.The 2 indicates a 2X4 barrel manifold.

That makes sense, too Paul, as '57 were the first large port heads...Hehe

Carbs and set up look great!! !did they just polish the carbs or did they coat them with ? what are you going to do with the fuel lines are you going to use crome steel tubing to a juntion blk or flex tubing and  a junction blk and what fittings are you using on all 3 carb,s to recieve the lines and what dist. are you using also what # is the power valves like 5.5 or ? and did they use the right power valve because the ones you get from the rebuild kits are wrong they have a shoulder where the gasket seals and shouldn,t !! just something i found out, , otherwise they leak would love to see the set up on your car complete  ford paved the way ford everybody elseSmile shakey Pete from B.C

Those are absolutely beautiful. My wife is hosting an art show tomorrow night. May I borrow them to show? Looks like art to me. Excuse me for being to nosey and personal, but could you share about what the refurbishing set you back (round numbers).

I tried to answer your questions below:

The carbs weren't painted or polished, they were just stripped of the original "gold-ish" finish and thoroughly cleaned.

I plan to use an Edelbrock 4-port fuel block (3 lines and a pressure gauge) towards the front of the manifold, with hard lines running to each carb. The carbs use the same flare fitting adaptor as a 97 does.

I am running a vintage W&H Du-Point tach drive distributor that runs the T-Bird tach. (been on the car since late '56).

Not sure what # power valve...but I trust Dick implicitly with my stuff. I can find out what P.V. and jet size he used. The front/rear carbs don't have idle circuits anymore.

so what are you going to do with the 553?

For now it resides (with a recently assembled trio of matching ECG-5 carbs BigGrin) on a really clean '57 272 in my garage...I dream of building a 30-31 Model "A" roadster around it someday...Cool

I also had Dick York to do my carbs. He is truly an artist and also loves to talk cars!

Dick York,  wasn't he on the TV show Bewitched?  Tongue

Maybe that's why he can work magic with carburetors.
