well, I was all set to order a cool Moon Eyes steering column-mounted tach when it occured to me to do some measuring, and of course, I can't mount a tach on the column with my "three on the tree" set up...

so, if there are alternative sites to consider locating a tach in my 57 Fairlane, I would appreciate hearing about them...

any input would be appreciated.

thanks, Mark

Where to mount the tach depends on the size. You can get a small tach and use the preformed cover and mount it on the window frame. Get a larger one and mount it in the center of the dash and turn it  a bit to face you so it can be seen. Directly in front of you on the dash. I have removed the rear view mirror and mounted a tach upside down there before. Its hard to say. It all depends on how bad you want a tach and what size and how much you are willing to drill a hole or two to mount one.

Mark,

It will fit at the top of the column. Mount it close to the steering wheel, over to the left side. I have a three speed column, and a tach in the red car.

Here’s a picture of a bracket I fabbed to house a pair of vacuum gauges.  The braket wraps completely around the steering column on my ’55 Customline which has to also work around the shift bar for the column shifter.  A similar bracket could be done for just a tachometer if wanting the tach spaced higher than simply off to the side.
