I need 4 of the splined shafts for the inside door handles and window cranks for my '56 truck. The ones on my truck seem to have been worked over by crazies with hammers and can not be repaired. If some one has a doaner car or truck that these could be cut off (with a sawzall please) as near the mechinasm as possible. These are the same for 56 truck as for 55 & 56 pass car so the could come from the back doors of a Fordor. Please let me know if you have anything you spare Thanx

Doug.....If you don't find the door parts sooner, when the weather moderates a little I can get you some off a 4 door. Are you sure they are the same on a car as on a pickup?

Doug: What about the splines in the handles themselves? Are they worn badly also? If all else fails could you clean the ends well & put a layer of J.B. weld on them & slip the handle on temporarily, to cut splines & slip it off to dry.. Might work?. I fixed a rear lift gate window latch on a Malibu wagon, somewhat like that. Saved having to replace the latch & re key it.

PWH 42; The truck window and door splines are exactly the same as on my 55 T Bird which I believe are the same as the pass cars. The cranks and handles are not the same truck to car but the T bird handles fit the truck and the truck handles fit the car. No big hurry but when the weather breaks see what you have and let me know by PM or on this thread. Paul I have thought of something like JB weld but that stuff is really strong and I dont want get in the situation where I would have to cut the handles up to get them off.

Re: Door Hardware: I'm looking for an original 50s Ford handle/panel spring. The shorter repros they sell today leave the handle loose & rattling (especially on a T-Bird where the only inside handhold for closing the door is the operating handle itself). I chrome-paint a rubber water filter washer now (perfect fit) to use as a spacer, but while the original springs are a bear to install, I still like the factory look.

Doug, I am having the same problem as Paul, I have sent several emails about the cowl vent handle/linkage and it appears you never got anything back. I think you already have my email address if you want to use that.

Dan: Are you talking about the conical springs about 2" diameter on the big end and about 1/2" on the small end. Go between the metal inner door panel and the fiberboard of the door trim panel?

John,
Right. Sounds like an original spring. Noticeably larger/stiffer (though fewer coils) than the replacement type.

Dan: I have some then, used ones. But the postage would be more than the spring is worth.

John,
It's not like I can run down to the local NAPA and get one. Like I said, only repros (I've seen) available today quite different. If you don't need it, please send one and I will repay your postage plus whatever you think the spring is worth (I e-mailed you my address again).
P.S. Still remember your previous generosity (old valves) and since I'm starting to accumulate a few misc. "Y" parts/hardware, keep me in mind if you need something I can send in return.
