I've got a '58 fairlane 2 door post with long cruiser skirts and currently I have new reproduction tri-bar discs on my 14 inch rims on it. I would like to get new discs on it but the 58 discs don't do a thing for me with just the 35 ribs and plain jane center. Has anyone put on new wire wheels and does it look good? Gt

50 years ago we put wire wheels on almost everything that we could afford to put them on. I personally thought 58's looked good with wire wheels, but then again, someone like me who was already driving when your car was built might have different tastes than you have.

I don't have any personal experience with wires, but a friend bought a set for a 56 Ford recently. He says that a buyer has to be really careful about the quality of new wires. Also, he was told by an expert restorer that many of those wheels require tubes, because they are prone to leaking. Best do your homework before a purchase. And all good quality wires are many $$$$ !

Great ideas, thanks. Take a look at this site. I can get 100 spoke wheels 14 x 7 for $95 US delivered to Port Huron! Does anyone have experience with these guys? http://www.ogwirewheels.com/ Gt

Good American made wheels are between $400 to $600 each. I would have fears of $95 wheels being imports of inferior quality.

Gordie: As mentioned, $95 wheels are off shore stuff. And if you think about it, there is no way they can be decent quality. The chrome would cost that much! Besides one look at the guy in the ad, would turn me off..

Gordie; You might try Wheelsmythe in Santa Ana, Ca. He has made me several sets--56 Ford pickup-- 62 Falco Ranchero and now my 55 T-bird. They will make them any back spacing you need, just talk to Bob, and he will recomend what you need. Great Quality and I think the cost was about $1200. Hope this helps God Bless Eddie PS Phone # (714) 556-3861 also has website

Thanks guys for the ideas. The spokes on those cheap wheels are too thin anyway to look good. I'll stick with what I've got. Save money too! Gt

Some 80s Lincolns had wires on them. I think they look better than the overchromed aftermarket wheels. Only issue is I am pretty sure they were all 15".
