Hey all. Getting ready to swap to the Tennessee oil pan gasket, thought I might peek at the bearings while I'm there. Which main and which rod would be the bell weather in a Y block?

If it holds good oil pressure (cold and hot) and no lower engine noise, I wouldn't be concerned.
But then again it is not mine.
Rear seal good? If you have to go there I could see it.

You should point and laugh for what I'm about to type here, I deserve it.
We didn't have a oil pressure gauge on it, I'm not sure the idiot light works either 😂
The engine is an unknown really. It's a 62 292 in a 58 truck that looks like it got a rebuild at some point.
It makes no ill noises or has given us reason for concern.

As Kultulz brings up, if the oil pressure is acceptable, then it’s probably best to not break the bearing caps loose just to examine the bearings. This can create issues where none existed before taking things apart as there’s always the chance that the bearings will lose their ‘crush’ when reusing them.
But, if the rear seal is leaking, then the #5 main would be a likely candidate for examining for any excessive bearing wear while addressing the leaking around the rear seal. If excessive wear is seen on this bearing, then looking at the #4 rod bearing would be next in line as the oil for this bearing comes from the #5 main. Also, if there is a balance issue with a flywheel or pressure plate, the #5 main would show this more than any of the other main bearings. The #3 main is also a likely candidate due to the oil galley supplying oil to that bearing also supplying oil to two different connecting rods, the camshaft, and the top end of the engine. Before breaking the #3 main loose to examine the bearing, this would be a good time to check the fore and aft movement at the center main. In a perfect world, you would like this value to be 0.010” or less.
