I’m trying to put my cable on the overdrive in my 55 crown Victoria. Is there a special bolt that attaches the cable to the transmission? It seems if I put the cable between two washers on a nut and bolt,it binds up.im thinking it’s not right. I guess im missing something.  The car didn’t come with an engine or transmission so I never had the original parts any help would be greatly appreciated

That bolt that secures the cable must be able to rotate freely in the overdrive lever attached to the trans. The bolt usually has a hole cross drilled close to the bolt head to accept the cable. The heart of the assembly is a flanged bushing that allows it to rotate yet tightly secures the cable that is sandwiched between two washers. I'll try to post a couple of pictures of one I have on the shelf. Washers of various thickness can be selected to minimize any excess play. Hope this helps....

Thanks for the good information. I thought that it had to be something other than just a nut and bolt. I think I may have that bolt but if I have it I will have to dump boxes and coffee cans to find it! Maybe I can order one or maybe make one.  Thanks again for the picture I appreciate it.
