I've been told that the AOD transmission adapter will accept any Ford Metric transmission. Does that mean I could bolt up a 5 or 6 speed automatic to it? Has anyone done this conversion?

It should only take a few minutes of searching the net as far as bolt pattern is concerned; but there are other things to consider, like size & computer. There are adapters available that will allow you to bolt up just about any transmission.

I've had good success with my non electronic aod.  Other things to consider with the adapter is spacer between crank and flex plate size, flex plate,
Having the transmission module wiring and a diagram.  Just my thoughts.

I can’t answer your question, but it’s sure an interesting possibility.

Over on the HAMB is this post about a Fordo/AOD swap. It’s the most detailed I’ve seen, and pays particular attention to the trans crossmember, mount, column shifter quadrant, etc. Just might be of interest to someone considering it. It’s in a 54 Country Squire, but I think there’s enough commonality to be of use in later models.

This site suggests their plate does and a few others but Electronic trans will need a computer to control it.

There are aftermarket electronic transmission controllers available. You might take a look on Summit or Jegs.

My setup has the TV cable for function. Initially getting it set right was a bit tedious but since then I've never had to touch it. I've been manually shifting the AOD on the track and still haven't got it down. I only go to the strip once a year and I'm not getting enough track time to perfect it. I have a B&M floor shifter for it but I'm divided about installing it.

I assume you're talking about Epping?  What have you run with it?  Is there a particular event that you usually go to?
