I'm trying to remove the oil pan on my Fairlane. Other than getting the engine at TDC, the front motor mount is in the way. The guard that covers the bottom of the crankshaft pulley in particular. Is that guard removeable. I've taken the top bolts out and disconnected it at the bottom but still seems connected to something. Does anybody have experience taking this part off? Thanks for your help.

If you are referring to the front motor mount, you will need to remove the crankshaft damper first before it can be removed. As I recall, there is one pesky bolt that is recessed a bit to the timing cover.

I recall back in the 60's I had a 56 Ford Customline 272/auto that I needed to pull the oil pan on. Car was stock & still had the front steady rest on it. Being just 17, I did it in the street in front of the house. After removing the bolts and the oil pump pick up tube I just rotated the crank until the pan would clear the throws. Came right out. Didn't have to remove the steady rest, crank pulley or jack the engine up. Couldn't do something like that now. Take too long to get down and back up on my feet.
