The brand new voltage regulator crapped out on my fully restored '56.  Put the old regulator back on and it has been working fine, but I don't trust it long term.

So my question is simple.  What do you recommend I buy and from who.

Question #2:  Are all 12 volt regulators the same or do I need a '56 compatible regulator.

Thanks guys, I know there are lots of experts out there.

Likely all made in China.  But (luckily), regulators are cheap.  Interesting quandary: Is it better to risk the failure/hassle of a cheap new one, or wear out the old one that is a proven reliable spare (?).

Just out of curiosity, I checked Napa and RockAuto. Neither stocks a 56 voltage regulator. However, I did find one that's "Proudly Made in America", but at $109.95, it's not cheap. brillman.com/product/ford-12-volt-1956-1962-voltage-regulator/

Either way, I would carry a spare.

To asnwer question #2, all 12V regulators are not created the same. It depends on your generator output. More than likely, your 56 has the standard 30 amp generator so 30 amps is what the current limit should be set at. That's the most common Ford car generator/regulator combination. If I can be of any help, let me know...........I should have a very lightly used genuine Motorcraft made in USA regulator from my truck when I converted to an alternator.

Ford Dearborn,  I would be interested in that slightly used motorcraft regulator.  Do you live in Michigan?  I live in SE MI, Canton, could run over and pick it up.
