Hello,
How sloppy should the throttle bell crank be? Mine is really sloppy, but I found one at a Tbird shop that may work. Are they all the same and will it work?

Those intake manifold bell crank assemblies are not all the same. The standard transmission versus automatic transmissions versions are different. The teapot carb versus the later model carb bell cranks are also different.

Thank you Ted, is there a way to 'rebuild' them or make them less sloppy?

Mike,
Know too that the passenger car 55, 56, and 57 four barrel linkage assemblies for the Fordomatic all had their own variations. The 55's are very hard to find because Ford did not have that many four barrel packages that year in cars. With the 292 in quite a few 1956 and 1957's, Ford produced a lot more with the 4 barrel. Like Ted says, there are variations with the Holley 4000 and later model four barrel setups. Even the Fordomatic kick down rod in 56 and 57 were a little different in how they connected to the linkage assembly.

Well, it looks like I will see if I can rebuild mine-if it needs it. I have a 57 4 bbl with auto, so will be on the lookout for a replacement just in case.

Carl, It looks like the bracket is worn along with the shaft that rotates through it. I will post a picture of the crank tonight if I can.
