I’ve never read the article but installed quite a few multiple carb sets on V8’s and inlines. I’ve done both straight and progressive on each style.
Important to me is proper sizing of the carburetors and how you’re wanting to use them. I currently have dual quads on a 296” 56 YBlock and they have been on the car for 6-7 years and I have no intention of removing them. They are small base Carter WCFB’s. I also installed 3-2’s on my sons 311” GMC inline 6. They are 280 cfm Holleys from a 60 Mercury.
Both systems are progressive. They have a repeatable idle, no dead spots or hesitation.
A Unisyn and vacuum gauge are a key to getting a good idle at a reasonable rpm. my automatic trans idles at 600 and the engine is stock inside. The GMC has 10-1 compression and fairly healthy cam and a 4-speed and his idles at 650.
