How many cans of spray paint are required to paint an assembled engine? I tested Seymour's Ford/Chrysler on the thermostat housing and intake washers. It seems more on the orange side when in direct sunlight, but it's recommended by Gil Baumgartner (CTCI-Gil's Garage).

It depends on how thick you want the paint to be.  I always go over my engines at least three times to make sure I have good coverage and that usually requires two cans just to be safe.  Thick is not always the best since it will chip easier.  Joe-JDC

I'll probably use 3 light coats over Seymour primer.
