A brand-new fuel pump that I purchased from one of the thunderbird supply houses is defective out of the box, it has no markings other than IN:

I am looking for the best mechanical fuel pump. I searched summit: FORD 4.8L/292 Ford Y-block Fuel Pumps - Mechanical Fuel Pump Type - Free Shipping on Orders Over $99 at Summit Racing

Anyone have suggestions?

Find a used pump that was made in America/Mexico, and have it rebuilt. CASCO is paying $50 for American/Mexican cores, because of issues with pumps made in China.

This is from a supplier posted on another FORUM -

Mechanical fuel pumps:

ALL new pumps as of 5 years ago are made overseas and are WAY over pressured for older carbs. Your choices are, have your old one rebuilt, or install a 1-4lb regulator.

We have dozens of folks a week calling in and they have blown the gaskets out of their carbs or have massive flooding.

ALL carbs that say NEW are from China or worse. Holley and Edelbrock have not made a carb in the US since 2000. Someone in China is using the Carter name on metric copies.

Pay thru the nose and use original carbs made here.

There is no quality left. If all these suppliers have to offer is CHI-COM junk they should mention it in their cataloging.
You will need to find an original core and have it re-done to modern specs.

Is it an Airtex?  Don Hyde (Ford Craft) in Texas fixes new ones so they work.  He may fix used ones.  972-432-4636.  If you do call him, let me know what he says.

Did you contact the seller about your problem?  Can you return it?  etc..

Wow! I just contacted the supplier. They stopped selling the "New" 9350 made in china pumps because they were cheap chinese crap.

If you have one of them be aware they are known to fail. Or not work right out of the box.

I have an American made and then refurbished in America 9350-R on the way.

Believe you can tell which pumps are bad by the type of screws used.  There was a ‘Gil’s Garage’ or EarlyBird’ article, but I can’t find it.

Not sure what the fuel pump situation but the supplier's content from the other forum is questionable.  I recently watched this video recently of Holley "NOT making carbs in the USA..."
