Would anyone with a copy of the 1957 Ford car shop manual be willing to post an image of the specs page covering the 4-barrel carburetors at the end of the fuel chapter? If so, I would greatly appreciate it.

Ted, in your 4-barrel test you identify jetting in your 57-spec 4100 as 47p-57s. The page above says stock spec is 54p-54s. Where did you get your test numbers?

I’m curious because the carb I’m working on (a ‘57 ECZ 4100) came to me with 46p-55s jetting.

At the time that particular carb test was performed, it was believed that the original 1957 Ford flattop carbs used the 1.08” venturi.  The carb used in that test was from a 225HP 289 and was thought to be representative of a 1957 Ford carburetor.  Since doing that test, I have come across three of the original ‘ECZ’ Ford flattop carbs and they are indeed different from the 1.08” carb used in the test you mention.  The ECZ carbs have even smaller venturi sizing and the jetting is also different.  From those three carbs I was able to make one good original 1957 carb.

I now have the stock 1957 List 1273 Holley, the 1957 ECZ Carter, and the 1957 ECZ Ford carbs here.  In the future I will be doing a dyno test simply comparing these three carbs to each other.  This test will likely be performed on two different engines with one being the well-used 312 with the Crower 238@050 camshaft with an aluminum 4V intake manifold and the other test being performed on an engine that’s closer to stock.

Outstanding! I’m excited to read about that test! I have the 4100 and the ECZ-AA Carter as well. I am waiting on a 1/2” spacer to mount up the 4100 because the long accelerator pump mechanism interferes with the heater hose fitting. The boosters are smaller than other 4100s and there is no throttle stop on the secondaries. I am looking forward to road testing it in comparison to the AFB.
